11-Run Frame Propels DockHounds to Victory
by Sam Matheny, Lake Country DockHounds
GENEVA, ILL. – The Lake Country DockHounds took down the Kane County Cougars by a 13-12 score Tuesday evening
at Northwestern Medicine Field.
After winning the American Association Pointstreak Pitcher of the Week, Angel Ventura took the hill as the starter for
Lake Country. He looked for his second consecutive winning decision.
The DockHounds would score scored two in the top of the first. Jordan Schaffer kicked it off with a single, followed by
Gio Brusa’s two-run home run. A sacrifice-fly by Jimmy Kerrigan made the score 2-1 DockHounds.
On a 1-2 count, Sherman Johnson hit a solo homer in the second. In the next inning, Dylan Busby doubled to put the
Cougars ahead 3-2.
But Lake Country would put on a demolition derby in the sixth frame. The ‘Hounds showed off their power with three home
runs, each driving in multiple runners. Lamar Briggs began things with a two-run shot. Schaffer drove in a run on a
single.
After a crucial error by Galli Cribbs Jr. for what would have been the third out, the DockHounds pounced on the Cougars.
TJ Bennett jacked a three-run homer. But the ‘Hounds wouldn’t stop scoring as Gabriel Noriega smacked a three-run
shot round-tripper of his own. Danny Molinari’s two-run double would cap off an incredible, 11-run inning. Even more
improbable, they scored all of the runs with two outs.
Kane County put up one run in the sixth but clawed their way back with a five-run seventh inning. A 2-RBI double by Nick
Anderson. The score was then 13-9, Lake Country.
The Cougars tried to rally in the ninth, and BJ Lopez led the charge with a three-run home run to put the game within one
run, 13-12. However, a fly-out to Lamar Briggs in right field would end it.
Ventura would earn the winning decision, while Vance Worley took the loss. The DockHounds will continue their series at
Northwestern Medicine Field Wednesday morning at 11 a.m.
