In this American Association Daily, Robert Pannier examines the highlights, transactions and news from the American Association for August 11, 2019. There were six games in the American Association on Sunday, including the Chicago Dogs getting two homers and seven RBI from Kelly Dugan in their 14-7 victory, and the Sioux City Explorers downing the Cleburne Railroaders.
Daily Recaps: August 11, 2019
Explorers Edge Railroaders, 6-5
The Sioux City Explorers fell behind the Cleburne Railroaders, 4-1, before battling back to win 6-5. Nate Samson drove in three, including two in a three run fifth that tied the score. Taylor Jordan (5-9) earned the victory, allowing three earned runs in six innings.
T-Bones Edge AirHogs, 2-1
The Kansas City T-Bones narrowly edged the Texas AirHogs, 2-1, in an incredible pitchers’ duel. Tommy Collier allowed one run in seven innings for Kansas City to earn the victory. Erik Manoah, Jr. was brilliant for the AirHogs, but allowed one more run than Collier and that proved to be the difference. The T-Bones scored both of their runs in the sixth.
Four Run Ninth Helps RailCats Prevail, 11-7
The Gary Southshore RailCats jumped out to a 7-2 lead over the St. Paul Saints, only to see it evaporate. However, a four run ninth inning gave Gary back the lead, as they would go on to win, 11-7. Raymond Jones homered twice for the RailCats, including adding a three run blast in the ninth. Ryan Thurston earned the victory in relief.
Saltdogs Defeat Canaries, 4-2
The Lincoln Saltdogs won their seventh straight game at home, defeating the Sioux Falls Canaries, 4-2. Randy Knapp earned the victory, tossing seven outstanding innings. Reese Gregory came on in the eighth and tossed two scoreless frames to earn the save. Clint Coulter was a perfect 4-4 for Sioux Falls.
Milkmen Double Up Winnipeg, 4-2
Kevin Hilton’s debut for the Winnipeg Goldeyes was a solid one, but he was simply outpitched by Jordan Kraus as the Milwaukee Milkmen won 4-2. Kraus allowed two runs in 6.1 innings while Hilton gave up three runs in seven innings. Christ Conley drove in two for Milwaukee.
10 Run Fourth Propels Dogs to Victory, 14-7
The Chicago Dogs downed the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks on Sunday, 14-7, thanks to a 10 run fourth inning. The Dogs sent 13 batters to the plate in the frame as Kelly Dugan capped it off with a grand slam. Dugan hit two homers and drove in seven. Dugan also scored three runs, as did Victor Roache.
American Association Notes
Dogs outfielder David Olmedo-Barrera extended his consecutive on-base streak to 35 games. His on-base percentage is .417 in that stretch…The Kansas City T-Bones have won five straight games.
