Zambrano Shuts Down Goldeyes, 5-1
Carlos Zambrano was quite impressive in his second start, holding the Winnipeg Goldeyes to one run in 5.1 innings to lead the Chicago Dogs to a 5-1 victory. Three Dogs hit homers in the contest, including Keon Barnum who has homered in four of the last five games. He now has 27 on the season, which leads the American Association.
Railroaders Roll Past Explorers, 7-5
The Cleburne Railroaders defeated the Sioux City Explorers for the second straight night, extending their lead in the South Division to 2.5 games. The 7-5 victory came courtesy of a set of three two-run innings. Zach Nehrir hit his fourth homer of the year and added two runs and two RBI. Jesus Sanchez won his ninth game of the season for Cleburne.
T-Bones Sweep AirHogs in Double-Headers
The Kansas City T-Bones took both games of a double-header against the Texas AirHogs on Friday night, thanks to outstanding performances by starters Akeem Bostick and Jose Mesa, Jr. In Game 1, Bostick blanked Texas for five innings to earn the victory in his first start for Kansas City. Carlos Diaz came on to close out the 3-2 victory for save No. 10.
In the nightcap, Mesa went the distance, allowing a run on four hits for his second win of the season. Casey Gillaspie broke a 1-1 tie in the sixth with a three run homer, giving the T-Bones a 4-1 victory. Roy Morales was a perfect 3-3 for Kansas City with three runs scored.
Jess Gem Foils Saltdogs, 6-1
Jordan Jess allowed one run in 6.2 innings to lead the St. Paul Saints to their fourth straight victory. Jess allowed four hits and struck out five in moving his record to 6-0. Chesny Young homered for the second straight night and added three RBI.
RedHawks Rally to Down Canaries, 11-10
The Sioux Falls Canaries bullpen continues to struggle, squandering a 9-2 lead as the team fell to the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks, 11-10. Chris Jacobs lead the comeback, falling a single short of hitting for the cycle. He added five RBI and scored two runs. The 1-6 hitters for the RedHawks offense were a combined 15-28 with 11 runs scored and nine RBI.
Walker Homer Powers Milkmen, 7-2
Jordan Kraus allowed two runs in seven innings and Adam Walker blasted his 20th homer of the season as the Milwaukee Milkmen defeated the Gary Southshore RailCats, 7-2. Milwaukee trailed by two heading into the top of the third, but would score three to take the lead for good. Leading by two heading into the top of the seventh, the Milkmen would put this game out of reach when Walker drilled a 1-2 pitch for a three run homerun.
