American Association Daily Recap: September 1, 2019
In this edition of American Association Daily, Robert Pannier examines the highlights, transactions and news from the American Association for September 1, 2019. There were six games played on Sunday, including the Kansas City T-Bones battling back to win in 13 to claim the South Division title and the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks defeated the Cleburne Railroaders. Plus, Keon Barnum set an American Association record.

T-Bones Clinch Division Title in Dramatic Fashion, 6-5
Casey Gillaspie delivered a walk-off single in the bottom of the 13th inning to give the Kansas City T-Bones a 6-5 victory over the Sioux City Explorers. The victory clinched the South Division title for the T-Bones. Sioux City led 5-1 heading to the bottom of the seventh, but Kansas City scored single runs in the seventh and eighth, before tying the score with two runs in the bottom of the ninth. Gillaspie had the big blow in that frame as well, blasting a two run homer. The victory assured Kansas City a chance to defend their title.
RedHawks Hang on to Down Railroaders, 4-3
The Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks took a three run lead over the Cleburne Railroaders before hanging on for a 4-3 victory. Taylor Bloye earned the win with four shut out innings in relief. Brian Olson had two hits and drove in a run for the RedHawks.
Saints Double Up Dogs, 4-2
Jordan Jess allowed one run in 5.2 innings as the St. Paul Saints defeated the Chicago Dogs, 4-2. Jess allowed seven hits and walk, while striking out three in earning his seventh win of the season. Brady Shoemaker drove in two and Dan Motl scored two runs.
Lubking Leads RailCats, 3-1
Trevor Lubking blanked the Lincoln Saltdogs through six innings to lead the Gary Southshore RailCats to a 3-1 victory. Lubking allowed just two hits. Andy DeJesus finished the contest with three hits and drove in a pair of runs.
Lemond Stellar as AirHogs Soar, 5-1
A night after allowing just two hits to the Milwaukee Milkmen, Zech Lemond did it one better, combining with two relievers to allow one hit as the Texas AirHogs won, 5-1. Lemond allowed one run on one hit in 7.1 innings. The victory ended a tough season for Lemond, who had lost his first 13 decisions.
Canaries Clip Goldeyes, 5-4
The Sioux Falls Canaries ended their six game losing streak, downing the Winnipeg Goldeyes, 5-4. Clint Coulter had two hits and two RBI against Goldeyes ace Mitch Lambson. Will Solomon earned the win with 3.1 shut out innings of relief.
American Association Notes
Texas AirHogs RHP Zech Lemond snapped his 13 games losing streak…Chicago Dogs 1B Keon Barnum set an American Association record with his 31st homer of the season…Mitch Lambson set a Winnipeg Goldeyes record for innings pitched in a season, tossing 150.2 this season…The Kansas City T-Bones have won six straight games.
Playoff Scenarios:
North
If the Saints win today or the RedHawks lose, St. Paul is the North Division champion and the playoffs will begin in Fargo-Moorhead on Wednesday. If the Saints lose and the RedHawks win, then Fargo-Moorhead wins the division and the playoffs will begin in St. Paul in Wednesday.
South
The Kansas City T-Bones are the South Division champions. If Cleburne loses today or Sioux City wins, the Explorers earn the second playoff spot and the playoffs will begin in Sioux City on Wednesday. If the Railroaders win and the Explorers lose, then the Railroaders win the final playoff berth and the playoffs begin in Cleburne on Wednesday.
