Baez Big Day Helps Cougars Avoid Sweep
GENEVA, Ill. – The Kane County Cougars (33-38) finally saw their offense break through as they avoided the sweep, salvaging a 10-2 win against the Milwaukee Milkmen (46-24) Wednesday night from Northwestern Medicine Field.
For the first time in the series, the Cougars scored first. Mitch Reeves led off the 2nd with a walk before Jeffrey Baez blasted a two-run homer over the left-center field fence. Baez tacked on another run with an RBI single in the 3rd.
Milwaukee chipped away at Connor Berry (1-0), but never could totally catch up. Berry earned his first win and quality start as a Cougar with 6.0 IP, 7 H, 2 R, & 3 K.
The Cougars broke things open in the 6th inning. Karch Kowalczyk walked the bases loaded all with two outs, then Reeves blasted a bases-clearing double to put the Cougars ahead 6-2. Jhon Nunez followed up with a two-run single in his Cougar debut.
Anfernee Seymour brought in another run in the 8th with an RBI groundout.
Nate Pawelczyk (1-2) suffered the loss.
