Randolph Powers Cougars Past Canaries

Stafford Leads Goldeyes to Victory over Saltdogs
Deon Stafford had two hits and drove in four runs as the Winnipeg Goldeyes defeated the Lincoln Saltdogs, 7-5. This was a great back-and-forth affair that saw Winnipeg take the lead in the second on an error, but Lincoln finally got on the board in the fourth on a two-run blast off the bat of Josh Altmann.
In the sixth, Stafford delivered the big blow, drilling a grand slam, his third homer of the year, to put the Goldeyes on top by three. However, Lincoln responded with three runs in the top of the seventh to tie the score. It did not stay that way for long as Raul Navarro homered in the seventh and Kevin Lachance went deep in the eighth to give the Goldeyes the victory.
Stafford finished 2-4 with a run and four RBI. Ian Sagdal had three hits and Lachance had two hits and scored two runs. Travis Seabrooke earned the win and Tasker Strobel retired the final three batters to earn the save. Randy Norris and Ryan Long each had two hits for the Saltdogs.

Simms Stymies Explorers in Railroaders Victory
Trevor Simms allowed one run in 5.2 innings to lead the Cleburne Railroaders to a 3-1 victory over the Sioux City Explorers. Sioux City scored a run in the bottom of the first inning when Chase Harris scored on a sacrifice fly by Ademar Rifaela.
Tom Windle was in complete command, holding Cleburne off the score board through the first five innings as he was holding a no-hitter through the first five frames. However, in the sixth, Eddie Hernandez led off with a double and Jacob Bockelie followed with a two-run blast, his fourth of the year. The Railroaders added one more in the eighth to make it 3-1.
That was plenty enough support for Simms and the Cleburne bullpen. Simms allowed four hits and three walks while striking out six. Michael Krauza came on in the sixth inning to close out the frame and tossed 2.1 innings of scoreless relief.
