Pitcher of the Week – Week 8: Angel Ventura

Ventura faced tough competition this week, earning a victory against the Sioux City Explorers and a no-decision in a 3-1 win over the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks.
Against Sioux City, the right-hander allowed six hits and an unearned run in 7.2 innings in a 6-1 victory. Ventura began the game by retiring the first 13 Explorers he faced. He did not give up a hit until there was one out in the fifth. An error in the sixth allowed the only run Sioux City would score. Of his 118 pitches thrown, 81 went for strikes.
Ventura followed up that outing with a gem against the RedHawks. He went 7.1 innings, allowing five hits and an unearned run. The right-hander allowed a single in each of the first two innings, then retired 10 in a row. He made a 1-0 lead hold up until an error allowed the tying run to score in the eighth.
