Canaries Clip Explorers, Monarchs Win Fourth Straight, Weekly Honors

In today’s edition, Robert Pannier recaps the two games in the American Association on Monday, including the Kansas City Monarchs winning their fourth straight game and the Sioux Falls Canaries bullpen holding off the Sioux City Explorers. Plus, Pitcher and Player of the week honors.

Canaries Bullpen Dominates
Four relievers combined to toss seven shutout innings as the Sioux Falls Canaries clipped the Sioux City Explorers, 4-3. Angel Lebron earned the victory with three scoreless innings of relief and Charlie Hasty came on to earn his first save of the season.
Sioux Falls took the lead in the bottom of the first inning on a ground out by Jordan Barth, but Sioux City responded with three runs in the top of the second. Jake Sanford reached on an error to tie the game and Kyle Kasser followed with a sacrifice fly to make it a one run advantage for the Explorers. A balk brought home Eury Perez to make it 3-1. The Canaries were down, but retook the lead thanks to an RBI double by Wyatt Ulrich and a two run double by Welington Dotel.
The Canaries bullpen took over from there, allowing two hits and three walks while striking out two Dotel finished with three hits and two RBI and Ulrich had two hits and scored twice. Sioux City produced just two hits in the ballgame.

Adolfo Leads Monarchs to Fourth Straight Victory
Miker Adolfo homered and drove in three as the Kansas City Monarchs defeated the Milwaukee Milkmen, 6-1. Kansas City took control of this game early, scoring a single run in each of the first two innings and adding three in the third.
The Monarchs took the lead in the bottom of the first, scoring a run on a double-play ground out. An inning later, Adolfo drilled his first home run of the season. In the third, Kansas City extended the lead to five. Gavin Collins doubled to drive home a run and Adolfo delivered a two-out, two run single.
That was more than enough support for Dalton Moats, who allowed just one run, a fifth inning sacrifice fly by Bryan Torres. Moats allowed four hits and a walk while striking out three. Zach Matson tossed three scoreless frames and Patrick Weigel tossed a scoreless ninth. Adolfo finished 2-3 with two runs scored and three RBI. Miguel Gomez had two hits for the Milkmen.

The Minor League Sports Report and This Week in the Association named their Player and Pitcher of the Week for Week 2. Chicago Dogs left-hander Jake Dahlberg was named as the top pitcher in the American Association after tossing seven shutout innings. Kansas City Monarchs catcher Chris Herrmann was selected as the Player of the Week after going 14-24 with three homers and 14 RBI… Herrmann was also selected by the American Association as the Player of the Week. Sioux City Explorers right-hander Solomon Bates was selected as the Pitcher of the Week… The Sioux Falls Canaries Welington Dotel extended his hitting streak to eight straight games.
