Dogs LHP Jake Dahlberg Named Pitcher of the Week

On Monday, This Week in the Association and the Minor League Sports Report named Chicago Dogs left-hander Jake Dahlberg as the Pitcher of the Week for Week 2 of the 2023 American Association season. Dahlberg was spectacular in his one start during the week, tossing seven shutout innings in a 2-0 victory over the Kane County Cougars.

Dahlberg made his one start on Thursday, May 18. This was a great pitchers’ duel between the Chicago left-hander and Kane County starter Tyler Beardsley, as both pitchers held a shutout through the first five innings. The Dogs finally got on the board in the sixth, scoring two runs, more than enough support for Dahlberg on this day.

The Chicago left-hander allowed seven hits in the game and did not walk a batter. He struck out six. Dahlberg allowed no more than one runner to reach in each of the first five innings, allowing three total hits during that span. In the sixth, the Cougars put two on with one down, but Dahlberg got two flyball outs against the heart of the Kane County order keep his team on top. In the seventh, he gave up two singles as well, but was able to get a ground out to end the threat.

With the victory, Dahlberg moved to 1-1 with a 2.25 ERA.

Jake Dahlberg is in his fourth season with the Chicago Dogs. He began his career in the St. Louis Cardinals organization, playing two seasons before joining Chicago in 2019. He went 19-12 in his first three seasons, including posting a 3.05 ERA in 2021. That season his contract was purchased by the San Francisco Giants, and he reached AAA-Sacramento. Last season, Dahlberg was with AA-Richmond where he was 5-7 with a 4.31 ERA in 21 starts.
