Jordan Kipper Named PURE Performance Pitcher of the Month.
This Week in the Association and the Minor League Sports Report in partnership with PURE Performance named Chicago Dogs right-hander Jordan Kipper as the PURE Performance Pitcher of the Month for August. Kipper led the American Association in victories with five and post an ERA of 1.25 during the month.
The right-hander was in complete command during August. Kipper began the month with an August 3 start against the Cleburne Railroaders, a 4-2 victory for the Chicago Dogs. The Chicago Ace was outstanding, allowing one run in six innings. He gave up three hits and two walks while striking out seven. It was an incredibly impressive performance, as Kipper was coming off a July 29 start when he allowed five runs in five innings raising his average to 6.19.
This was just the start for Jordan Kipper. On August 8, he allowed one unearned run and three hits in an 11-1 victory over the Sioux Falls Canaries. The right-hander went six innings, walking one while striking out eight. He gave up an unearned run in the first inning, then tossed five scoreless frames.
On August 13, Kipper pitched well in a 6-4 Dogs loss to the Kansas City Monarchs. The right-hander went six innings, allowing eight hits and three runs while striking out eight. The three runs were the most he allowed in any contest during the month.
On August 19, Kipper tossed six shutout innings against the Lincoln Saltdogs in a 2-0 Chicago victory. The right-hander allowed five hits and no walks while striking out nine, tying his season high.
In his next start, Kipper faced Lincoln again, this time in Chicago. He allowed one run in five innings in a 7-1 Dogs victory. The Chicago ace allowed seven hits while striking out six.
Kipper made his final start of the month on the last day of August, allowing two hits, no walks, and zero runs in a 4-1 victory over the Winnipeg Goldeyes. Kipper retired the first 16 batters of the game before a one-out single in the bottom of the sixth ruined his streak. He would give up one more hit in that inning, the only Goldeyes’ player to reach in the game.
It was an extremely impressive month for Jordan Kipper, who went 5-0 in six starts with a 1.25 ERA. In 36 innings, he allowed 28 hits and three walks while striking out 42. As part of the impressive August, the right-hander did not walk a batter in any of his last four starts, a span of 24.0 innings pitched. He posted an opponent batting average of .209 and a WHIP of 0.86.
For earning the PURE Performance Pitcher of the Month award, Jordan Kipper will receive a check for $250 from PURE. Kipper is the second Chicago Dogs pitcher to receive PURE Performance honors this season. Left-hander Jake Dahlberg won the award back in June.
