Cleburne Railroaders IF Bret Boswell Named American Association Player of the Week

Railroaders IF Bret Boswell Named Player of the Week
On Monday, This Week in the Association and the Minor League Sports Report named Cleburne Railroaders infielder Bret Boswell as the Player of the Week for Week 17 of the 2023 season. Boswell hit .364 with four home runs and 10 RBI during the week.
The infielder began with an impressive performance against the Lincoln Saltdogs, going a combined 5-10 with four runs scored and four RBI. He homered twice in the series. After going 1-3 in the opener, Boswell went to-three with a home run and three RBI in the second game of the series. He scored two runs in that contest and scored two more in the series finale, recording two hits in that contest as well. He also hit a solo home run in that game.
Next, the team went home to take on the Sioux Falls Canaries. Boswell opened the series with a home run in his third straight game. He went 0-4 on Saturday, but put together a 2-4 performance on Sunday, homering and driving in five. That helped the Railroaders clinch a playoff spot for the third consecutive season.
Boswell finished the week 8-22 with six runs scored, four home runs, and 10 RBI. He posted a .909 slugging percentage, second best in the league, and a 1.284 OPS.
Bret Boswell was selected in the eighth round of the 2017 amateur draft by the Colorado Rockies after graduating from the Texas University. In his three-year college career, Boswell hit .257 with 11 homers and 73 RBI and 157 games. The infielder then spent five seasons in the Rockies organization, reaching AAA-Albuquerque in 2022. In five seasons, he appeared in 438 games, hitting .254 with 71 home runs and 219 RBI. Boswell began the 2023 season with AA-Hartford, appearing in 66 games before his release. He joined the Railroaders where he has appeared in 36 games, hitting .322 with 12 doubles, 14 homers, and 43 RBI. Boswell has scored 34 runs.
Boswell is the third Cleburne player to be named Player of the Week this season. Zach Nehrir opened the season as Player of the Week and Hill Alexander earned the honors back in Week 7.
