Cougars Rally in Ninth to Down Canaries, 4-2
SIOUX FALLS – Trey Michalczewski went deep, but the Sioux Falls Canaries dropped their series opener vs. the Kane County Cougars 4-2 Friday at The Birdcage.
Michalczewski reached base three times in the loss. His solo blast in the fourth gave the Canaries a 2-1 lead behind Eddie Medina, who pitched six innings of two-run ball in a no-decision effort.
A Josh Allen home run gave the Cougars a 4-2 lead in the top of the ninth. All hope was not lost for the Canaries though, as the home team loaded the bases with one out in the final turn at bat. Logan Landon sent a pop fly toward the third base bag that was ruled an infield fly. A Canaries baserunner was tagged out trying to advance, ending the game.
Sioux Falls was outhit 12-8. Kane County reliever Jamal Wade (1-0) earned the win while Jake Cosart earned his first save. Mitch Glasser finished with two hits, including an RBI single.
