DockHounds Bats Stymied in Winnipeg
by Sam Matheny, Lake Country DockHounds
WINNIPEG, MB. – The Winnipeg Goldeyes edged out the Lake Country DockHounds 3-1 at Shaw Park Friday evening.
Eric Rivera was hit by a pitch to reach base for the Goldeyes. Max Murphy and David Washington would tally the first hits for their team in the first inning, with Murphy’s single scoring Rivera. After Reggie Pruitt Jr. drew a walk, Deon Stafford Jr. singled and scored the second run for Winnipeg.
Lake Country would only score one run the entire evening, and it occurred in the fifth.
With two gone in the inning, Jordan Garr drew a full-count walk to put a runner at first for the ‘Hounds. TJ Bennett singled to right field for the fourth hit of the contest. Gio Brusa singled to left field, scoring Garr. The score was trimmed to 2-1, Winnipeg.
The final run of the contest would favor the Goldeyes. In the eighth, Raul Navarro and Max Murphy would put back-to-back singles together to begin things. The ‘Hounds would intentionally walk Pruitt Jr. to create the double play scenario. However, a sacrifice-fly by Stafford Jr. would put the Fish up by two.
Francisco Jimenez would take the loss, while Freisis Adames earned his seventh winning decision.
The DockHounds will play game two against the Winnipeg Goldeyes on Saturday evening. The first pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. Broadcaster Sam Matheny will be on the call, live from Shaw Park.
