Dogs Down RedHawks, Saltdogs Win Slugfest, Rain Pours

In today’s edition, Robert Pannier recaps a full slate of games in the American Association on Thursday including the Chicago Dogs downing the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks, and the Lincoln Saltdogs winning a slugfest over the Cleburne Railroaders. The other four games were washed out.
Christman Dominates in Dogs Win
Garrett Chr,istman outdueled Bret Helton, as both starting pitchers allowed four hits in six innings, but Christman allowed one fewer run to help the Chicago Dogs to a 5-1 victory over the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks. This was a close 2-1 game until the top of the eighth when the Dogs blew it open. Three wild pitches in the inning plated runs to help secure the victory for Chicago.
Christman finished with four hits and two walks allowed. He struck out three. Kevin Marnon tossed two perfect innings to finish off the contest, striking out five. Johnny Adams was 2-4 with a run and an RBI, hitting his third homer of the year, and Danny Mars also homered and scored two runs. The RedHawks were led by Nick Shumpert with two hits and a run scored. Helton allowed four hits and two walks. He struck out five.

Saltdogs Down Railroaders in Slugfest
The Lincoln Saltdogs rallied from an early 4-1 deficit, scoring four in the third in a wild 11-10 victory over the Cleburne Railroaders. Curt Smith led the way, homering, scoring three runs, and driving in four. Edgar Corcino also homered in the game and drove in three runs. Lincoln hit three homers in all, as Ryan Long added his second shot of the season.
Cleburne went deep three times in the game as well, including the third of the season off the bat of Ramona Hernandez. Hunter Clanin hit his second homerun of the year as part of a three-hit performance. Clanin scored three runs and drove in two.

Cougars-RailCats Rained Out
The contest between the King County Cougars and the Gary Southshore RailCats was washed out because of rain. It will be made up on June 21.
Monarchs-Explorers Rained Out
The contest between the Kansas City Monarchs and the Sioux City Explorers was rained out. The contest will be made up on August 11.
Goldeyes-Milkmen Rained Out
The contest between the Winnipeg Goldeyes and the Milwaukee Milkmen was rained out. The game will be made up on August 24.
Apollos-Canaries Rained Out
The contest between the Houston Apollos and Sioux Falls Canaries was rained out. It will be made up on June 5.
