Dogs Offense Crushes Milkmen, 10-3
ROSEMONT, Ill. — Keon Barnum and Victor Roache tallied three RBI each to key offensive fireworks, guiding the Chicago Dogs to a 10-3 victory over the Milwaukee Milkmen on Wednesday night at Impact Field.
In a complete team effort, four Dogs recorded multi-hit games, and three recorded multi-RBI games.
Luke Westphal (W, 11-2) worked five solid innings, allowing three unearned runs on six hits with three walks and four strikeouts.
The Dogs got on the board in the bottom of the first, when Kelly Dugan’s groundout allowed Edwin Arroyo to score and make it 1-0.
Milwaukee responded swiftly, putting up three in the top of the second inning. Sam Dexter’s RBI single tied the game, and Glen McClain’s two-run single put the visitors ahead by a pair.
Arroyo added a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the third, bringing the Dogs within one. On the next at-bat, David Olmedo-Barrera scored on a Barnum groundout to knot the game at three.
Chicago then reclaimed the lead with a three-run fifth. After Olmedo-Barrera tripled, Arroyo singled him home to put the Dogs ahead. Barnum then smoked a double off the center field wall to score Arroyo and make it 5-3. Roache then followed suit with a single to score Barnum and extend the lead to three.
Harrison Smith then tossed a 1-2-3 sixth, and Casey Crosby notched a perfect inning of his own in the seventh.
Roache added an RBI double in the bottom of the seventh to make it a four-run ballgame, and the Dogs added three more runs in the eighth to break the game open.
Rich Mascheri worked the eighth, and Justin Goossen-Brown slammed the door with a perfect ninth inning.
LHP D.J. Snelten (6-3, 3.26 ERA) will start game two of the series tomorrow evening, with first pitch slated for 6:05 PM.
