Explorers Take Series, Murphy Homers Twice for Goldeyes, Dogs Blank Canaries

Jordan Kipper Shines in Debut for Dogs
Jordan Kipper made a triumphal return to the Chicago Dogs on Thursday, tossing five shutout innings in a 3-0 victory over the Sioux Falls Canaries. Jordan re-signed with Chicago after being released from the Mexican League and was dominating, allowing two hits and no walks while striking out seven. Four relief pitchers help to complete the shutout, including Jeff Kinley who earned his fourth save of the year.
The Dogs jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning. Danny Mars delivered an RBI double and he scored on a sacrifice fly by Ryan Lidge. In the sixth, Lidge drove home his second run of the game on a ground out.
Angel Landazuri was to hard luck loser, allowing three runs in 5.1 innings pitched. Wyatt Ulrich had two hits for the Canaries.
Explorers Down Milkmen in Rubber Match
Danny Amaral had three hits and scored three runs to help lead the Sioux City Explorers two and 8-5 victory over the Milwaukee Milkmen on Thursday, earning the team a victory in the rubber match of their series. Milwaukee took a 4-1 lead in the top of the second inning as Mason Davis delivered a two-run single to close out the scoring in the frame.
Sioux City earned one of those runs back in the bottom half of the inning when Sebastian Zawada hit his third homerun of the season. In the third, Sioux City took the lead for good, plating four runs of their own. Nick Franklin drove home two runs in the frame.
Tyler Beardsley (2-1) earned the victory, allowing one earned run in 5.0 innings pitched. Thomas McIlraith closed out the game for his fourth save of the season. Amaral hit his first homerun of the year for the Explorers. Davis finished with three RBI and Dylan Kelly had three hits for Milwaukee.

Murphy Homers Twice in Goldeyes Win
The Winnipeg Goldeyes completed their sweep of the Cleburne Railroaders on Thursday, thanks to two homeruns by Max Murphy and a five-run sixth inning. The teams exchanged runs in the second inning with Cleburne scoring on an error and Murphy tying the score in the bottom half of the frame with his first homerun of the night. Cleburne took a one run lead in the top of the third on an RBI single by Hector Sanchez, but the Goldeyes took the lead for good in the bottom of the sixth. Murphy hit a two-run homer, his fourth of the year, to give Winnipeg to lead.
Josh Lucas pitched well for the Goldeyes in earning his first win of the season, allowing two runs in 6.1 innings. Tasker Strobel came on in the eighth and retired the final six batters of the game to earn his fourth save of the year. Murphy finished 2-4 with two runs scored and three RBI.
Nick Shumpert had three hits for Cleburne. Sanchez had two hits and Jacob Bockelie drove home two with his second homerun of the season.

Cougars Rally to Down RedHawks
The Kane County Cougars erased a 4-0 deficit, scoring seven unanswered runs in a 7-5 victory over the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks. Fargo-Moorhead took the lead in the top of the first when Rymer Liriano delivered a two-run single. An inning later, Manuel Boscan crushed a two-run homer, his first of the year, to put the RedHawks on top by four.
However, in the bottom half of the frame the Cougars cut the deficit in half. Jimmy Kerrigan delivered his third homerun of the season to lead off the inning and Galli Cribbs added an RBI single. In the fourth, Kane County tied the score, then took the lead in the seventh as Cornelius Randolph delivered an RBI and Sherman Johnson followed with a two-run single.
Ryan Richardson earned his third victory of the year and C.J. Carter recorded the final six outs for his first save of the season. Johnson and Cribbs each had two hits and two RBI for the Cougars. Liriano drove in three and John Silviano walked four times for the RedHawks.
