Zawada Keeps Explorers Rolling
The Sioux City Explorers scored five unanswered runs to start off Monday’s contest, then held on for an 8-4 victory over the Kansas City Monarchs. The Explorers took the lead in the bottom of the first on an RBI single by Danry Vasquez and a sacrifice fly by Sebastian Zawada. Chase Harris homered in the second to extend the lead to three and Zawada drove in another with an RBI double in the bottom of the third. Gabe Snyder added an RBI single with two down in the frame and Sioux City looked like they were in complete command.
Blaine Hardy started for the Explorers and shut down Kansas City through the first three frames, but back-to-back home runs by Casey Gillaspie and Gio Brusa in the top of the fourth pulled the Monarchs within three. An inning later, Kansas City added two more runs, making this a one run game. However, Zawada added another RBI double in the bottom of the fifth and Snyder drove home Zawada with an RBI single. Sioux City added one more run in the sixth to close out the scoring.
