Fernando Perez, Austin Robichaux Earn American Association Honors for Week 7In American Association Daily, the Minor League Sports Report names their American Association Player and Pitcher of the Week for Week 7 as chosen by Robert Pannier and Kevin Luckow, with Wichita Wingnuts infielder Fernando Perez being named Player of the Week and Lincoln Saltdogs RHP Austin Robichaux selected as Pitcher of the Week.

Fernando Perez, Austin Robichaux Honored in Week 7

The Minor League Sports Report has named their Player and Pitcher of the Week for Week 7 of the 2018 American Association season. Wichita Wingnuts infielder Fernando Perez was named as the top player in the league while Lincoln Saltdogs right-hander Austin Robichaux chosen for the top pitching honor.

Player of the Week: Fernando Perez, Wichita Wingnuts

Wichita Wingnuts 1B/3B Fernando Perez was named by the Minor League Sports Report and This Week in the Association as the American Association’s top player for Week 7. The slugger hit .440 in six games, driving in 12 and scoring 8.

Perez had hits in all six games during the week, extending his hitting streak to seven. That included a pair of three-hit games, which is how he began the week.

The Wingnuts slugger helped Wichita sweep the Winnipeg Goldeyes in Winnipeg for the first time in franchise history, going 6-13 with 5-runs and 6-RBI. He opened the week with a 3-5 performance, scoring two, knocking in one and adding a home run. He followed that up with a 1-3 performance, then went 2-5 with 2-runs, 2-homers and 4-RBI in the final game of the series.

The Wingnuts returned home where they were swept by the Sioux City Explorers, but Perez continued to deliver, going 5-12 in the series with 3-runs and 6-RBI. He added a homer.

For Week 7, Fernando Perez was 11-25, with 4-homers, 2-doubles, and a triple. He led the American Association in a number of categories during the week, including slugging percentage (1.008) and OPS (1.597).

Perez is the third Wichita Wingnuts player to receive American Association honors from the Minor League Sports Report. Charlie Gillies was named the top pitcher for Week 5 and Casey Harman was honored as the Pitcher of the Month for May.

Pitcher of the Week: Austin Robichaux, Lincoln Saltdogs

Lincoln Saltdogs right-hander Austin Robichaux was named as the American Association Pitcher of the Week for Week 7 by the Minor League Sports Report. Robichaux made two appearances, going 1-0 with a 0.00 ERA.

The right-hander’s first appearance came on June 27 against the Kansas City T-Bones when he came out of the bullpen to toss a scoreless frame.

On July 1, he made his longest start of the season, tossing a 7-innings complete game against the Gary Southshore RailCats to earn his second win of the year. Robichaux allowed 4-hits and a walk, while striking out 5 in a 1-0 victory over the RailCats. Of his 75 pitches, 51 went for strikes.

Austin Robichaux is the fifth Lincoln Saltdogs player to be honored by the Minor League Sports Report this season. Michael Tamburino was Pitcher of the Week to start the year, and both Angel Reyes and Brandon Jacobs have been named as Player of the Week. Chase Simpson was honored as Player of the Month in May.
