Five-Run Sixth Sends RedHawks Soaring over Saltdogs
FARGO, N.D. – After going 4-2 on their road trip, the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks returned to Newman Outdoor Field and opened their three-game series against Lincoln with a 6-4 win over the Saltdogs in front of 3,372 fans on Tuesday night. The RedHawks fell behind 4-1, but scored five runs in the sixth inning and held on to win, improving to 24-10 at home this season.
The RedHawks didn’t open the scoring until the third inning, when Manuel Boscan (2-for-5, 2 RBIs, run scored) hit an RBI-triple after a double by Correlle Prime (3-for-5, two runs scored). Dylan Kelly hit a bases-clearing double in the sixth inning and led the RedHawks with 3 RBIs in the win. Second baseman Jordan George was 2-for-2 with three walks and a run scored.
RHP Ryan Flores (4-2) started his fourth game of the season for Fargo-Moorhead and gave up four runs on four hits and two walks in 5.2 innings pitched. RHP Davis Feldman (1-0) came into the game with the bases loaded in the sixth inning and gave up three hits in 1.1 innings pitched on the way to his first professional win. RHP Hayden Seig (0-0) pitched an inning and gave up a hit and a walk while striking out one. RHP Alex DuBord (3-0) gave up a hit in the ninth but got his fifth save of the season and lowered his ERA to 0.90.
The Saltdogs scored a run in the fifth and three runs in the sixth and held a 4-1 lead for a half inning before the RedHawks’ offensive onslaught in the sixth. Lincoln was led by David Vidal (3-for-4, run scored) and Edgar Corcino (2-for-4, 2 RBIs, run scored) on Tuesday night.
The Saltdogs started LHP Greg Minier (5-1), who pitched five innings and allowed only one run on five hits and six walks. RHP Walter Borkovich (1-4) came on in the sixth inning and gave up four runs (three unearned) on three hits in 0.1 innings pitched and got the loss. LHP David Zoz (0-0) replaced Borkovich and gave up a run on one hit in 0.2 innings pitched. LHP Josh Norwood (2-0) came into the game in the seventh inning and allowed one hit in an inning pitched. RHP Joe Hallock (0-0) came on in the eighth and allowed a hit in one inning pitched.
Fargo-Moorhead improves to 37-27 on the season and remains five games behind Milwaukee in the North Division and two games behind Chicago for the second playoff spot.
The RedHawks and Saltdogs will continue their series with a 7:02 p.m. game on Wednesday night at Newman Outdoor Field. Fargo-Moorhead is expected to start RHP Austin Ver Steeg (1-2, 5.35 ERA) while Lincoln is expected to start LHP Ben Wereski (0-0, 0.00 ERA).
