Goldeyes Edge Cougars, Ward, Tapani Honored, Stout Promoted

Strobel Shuts the Door in Goldeyes Victory
Tasker Strobel came on with two on and one down in the top of the ninth inning, striking out both batters he faced to close out the Winnipeg Goldeyes 5-4 victory over the Kane County Cougars on Monday. Winnipeg jumped out to a 3-0 lead thanks to two runs in the second and a run in the fifth. Logan Hill gave Winnipeg to lead with a two-run blast in the second, his first of two homers on the night. In the fifth, Deon Stafford drove home run with an RBI single.
Winnipeg was rolling behind starter Josh Lucas, who held Kane County off the board through the first five innings. However, the Cougars got on the board on an RBI double by Cornelius Randolph in the sixth. In the seventh, the Cougars tied the score on back-to-back RBI singles by Alexis Pantoja and B.J. Lopez. Winnipeg retook the lead when Hill led off the eighth with a homerun and Raul Navarro delivered what became the game-winning run on a sacrifice fly. In the ninth, Ernie De La Trinidad cut the deficit to one with an RBI single, but Strobel came on to strike out Sherman Johnson and Randolph to close out the game.
Hill finished 2-3 with two runs scored and three RBI. Pruitt had two hits and scored two runs. Travis Seabrooke earned the victory for the Goldeyes, tossing 1.1 innings of scoreless relief. Pantoja and Lopez each had two hits, a run scored, and an RBI for the Cougars.
