Justin Shafer allowed one run in six innings to lead the Kansas City Monarchs to a 3-1 victory over the Gary SouthShore RailCats on Tuesday. Shafer allowed a run in the fourth inning, the only blemish on his spectacular performance. The Monarchs trailed 1-0 heading into the bottom of the six, but a three-run frame gave them the lead. Jan Hernandez had the big hit of the inning, a two run double.
That ruined a solid performance by Jack Alkire, who allowed three runs on six hits in 7.1 innings. Alkire struck out eight. Zach Welz drove in the long run for Gary.

Explorers Edge Cougars Late
The Sioux City Explorers found themselves trailing 2-0 entering the top of the six, but scored two in the sixth, a run in the seventh, and two in the eighth on their way to a 5-2 victory over the Kane County Cougars. Sebastian Zawada got the rally started with his fifth homerun of the season, one of two hits on the evening by the outfielder. José Sermo remain red-hot, going 2-4 with a run scored. Tyler Beardsley earned the victory, allowing two runs and striking out eight and 6.2 innings. Matt Pobereyko closed the contest out for his ninth save of the season.
Josh Tols was solid for Kane County, allowing two runs and 5.2 innings. Jeffrey Baez and Kacy Clemens each drove in a run as part of a two run first-inning for the Cougars.

Saltdogs Edge Apollos Late
Gunnar Buhner drove home Patrick Adams with the go-ahead run in the bottom of the eighth as the Lincoln Saltdogs defeated the Houston Apollos, 7-6. Lincoln held a 3-0 lead after six, but Houston responded with four in the top half of the seventh inning to take the lead. The Saltdogs took the lead right back with three in the bottom of the inning, but Houston tied the score with two runs in the top of the eighth. That set up the bottom half the frame where Buhner hit the first pitch he saw for a single to drive home the winning run.
Josh Altmann and Forrestt Allday both had two hits for Lincoln. Hudson Bilodeau had three hits and drove in a pair of runs for the Apollos. Yieler Peguero hit his third homerun of the season.

Milkmen Dominate Canaries
The Milwaukee Milkmen scored eight unanswered runs on their way to an 8-2 victory over the Sioux Falls Canaries. A four run fourth inning got Milwaukee started. Brett Vertigan hit his first homerun of the season and drove in a pair of runs. Logan Trowbridge and Adam Brett Walker also went deep for the Milkmen.
Nick Gotta had three hits for the Canaries and Wyatt Ulrich and Logan Landon both had two hits at the top of the order. The duo each drove in a run for Sioux Falls.

Goldeyes Down Railroaders in 14
Sonny Ulliana drove home the go-ahead run in the top of the 14th and Tyler Hill added an insurance run with an RBI single as the Winnipeg Goldeyes defeated the Cleburne Railroaders, 4-2. Cleburne had been held in check, trailing 2-0 through seven, but scored two runs in the bottom of the eighth. That sent the game to extra innings where the marathon affair finally ended 4:34 after it started.
Wes Darvill finished with three hits for Winnipeg, as did Raul Navarro. Hunter Clanin had two hits for Cleburne and walked three times in the contest.

Grey Shines in Dogs Win
Connor Grey allowed one run in eight innings to lead the Chicago Dogs to a 2-1 victory over the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks. Grey was spectacular, allowing three hits and a walk while striking out eight. Jeff Kinley came on in the ninth to close it out for his first save of the season. Michael Crouse hit his first homerun of the season, leading off the top of the third with what became the eventual game-winner.
That ruined a solid performance by Brent Jones, who allowed two runs in six innings. Correlle Prime hit his fourth homerun of the season, producing the only run of the game for the RedHawks.

However, he did reach with three straight hits following the out…Winnipeg Goldeyes Raul Navarro has reached base in 20 consecutive games, tying Sioux Falls Canaries Angelo Altavilla for the longest streak in the league this year… Chicago Dogs catcher Ryan Lidge has a 12-game hitting streak. That is tied for the longest in the American Association this year. Sioux City Explorers RHP Tyler Beardsley tied Sioux Falls Canaries left-hander Ty Culbreth for the league-leading victories with five. Beardsley is also the league leader in strikeouts with 44.
