Gonzalez Homers But Goldeyes Sunk in Fargo
FARGO, ND – The Winnipeg Goldeyes (25-28) lost 12-5 to the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks at Newman Outdoor Field on Saturday night.
The RedHawks (31-24) took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning on an RBI single from Leobaldo Pina.
Dylan Kelly’s solo home run to centre in the bottom of the fourth made it 2-0.
The RedHawks rallied for four runs in the bottom of the fifth after there were two outs and no one on base. Alex Boxwell clubbed a three-run double to right-centre and then scored on an RBI single from Sam Dexter.
Fargo-Moorhead added five runs in the bottom of the fifth. Pina hit a two-run double down the right field line and was followed by an RBI double from Jordan George. Kelly extended the lead to 11-0 with a two-run home run to right-centre.
Jay Gonzalez slugged a leadoff home run to right-centre in the top of the seventh to put the Goldeyes on the board.
Fargo-Moorhead went ahead 12-1 in the bottom of the eighth on a solo shot from Silviano.
The Goldeyes rallied for four runs in the top of the ninth on a two-run single from Kyle Martin, a Raul Navarro RBI double, and a Kevin Lachance RBI single.
Austin Ver Steeg (1-2) started for the RedHawks and picked up his first professional win. Ver Steeg allowed one earned run on three hits over seven innings. Ver Steeg walked one and struck out six.
Eduard Reyes (5-5) started for the Goldeyes and took the loss, allowing six earned runs on eight hits in five innings. Reyes walked four and struck out four.

The Goldeyes will continue to monitor the reopening of the Canada/US border and assess a potential return to Shaw Park in 2021.
