Ian Yetsko & Jake Lialios Earn Week 6 Pecos League Honors
The Minor League Sports Report has named their Pecos League Player and Pitcher of the Week for Week 6. Roswell Invaders infielder was selected as the Player of the Week and Tucson Saguaros right-hander Jake Lialios earned the Pitcher of the Week honors for the second week in a row.
Player of the Week: Ian Yetsko, Roswell Invaders
Roswell Invaders infielder Ian Yetsko was selected as the Player of the Week by the Minor League Sports Report for Week 6. Yetsko hit .421 with five runs and 16 RBI during the week. He had at least one hit, scored at least one run, and drove in at least one run in all five games during the week.
Yetsko began the week on August 10, going 2-4 with a run and five RBI in a 17-15 loss to the Salina Stockade. He homered in the game as well, his fifth of the year. Two days later, the Roswell infielder helped lead the Invader to an 8-4 victory. He was 2-3 with a walk, a run, and four RBI. He added two doubles in the contest.
On August 13, Yetsko helped his team to an 11-0 victory. The infielder went 1-5 with a run scored and two RBI. He followed that up with a 2-4 performance against Tucson, scoring a run, hitting a triple and adding two RBI. On Sunday, Yetsko hit a three-run homer in a 6-5 victory over Salina.
For the week, the Invaders’ slugger hit two homers, two doubles and a triple, giving him a .947 slugging percentage. He was 8-19 overall and walked twice. Yetsko is the first Invaders player to be named as the top player.
Pitcher of the Week: Jake Lialios, Tucson Saguaros
For the second week in a row, the Minor League Sports Report has selected Tucson Saguaros right-hander Jake Lialios as the Pitcher of the Week. Lialios made one start, but it was a beauty, allowing one run on five hits, while striking out 14 in a 16-1 victory over the Houston Apollos on Wednesday.
Lialios was in trouble in the first. After striking out the first two batters of the game, he gave up a single and double that brought home a run. He then struck out Dylan Sunnafrank to close out the inning.
Despite giving up the run, he got on a roll. The righty struck out two in the second inning and then struck out the side in the third, giving him eight strikeouts through three innings. He then stuck out one in the fourth and one in the fifth. In the sixth and seventh he struck out two batters in each frame giving him 14 total strikeouts, the most in the Pecos League this season.
Lialios allowed five hits and did not walk a batter. He tossed 7.1-innings, his longest outing of the season. This is the third time this season that a Tucson Saguaros hurler has been named as the Pitcher of the Week.
