Monarchs C Chris Herrmann Named Player of the Week
On Monday, This Week in the Association and the Minor League Sports Report named Kansas City Monarchs catcher Chris Herrmann as the Player of the Week for Week 2 of the 2023 American Association season. Herrmann hit .500 with a league-leading 14 RBI to go along with three home runs and three doubles during the week. He recorded hits in all six contests that the Monarchs played.
Herrmann began his week in Gary, taking on the RailCats where he went a combined 5-11 with two runs scored, two doubles, two home runs, and four RBI. The Monarchs catcher helped lead Kansas City to their first victory of the season on Tuesday, going 3-5 with two home runs. He followed that up with back-to-back 1-3 performances, delivering a double in each of those games. Herrmann added an RBI and walked twice in the final game of that series.
Kansas City then played their season opener on Friday, welcoming the Sioux Falls Canaries to town. Herrmann was an absolute beast in the series, going a combined 9-13 with five runs scored and 10 RBI. He began the series with a 3-5 performance, scoring three times and driving in six. After going 2-4 with an RBI on Saturday, Herrmann put together another spectacular performance, going a perfect 4-4 with a walk, two runs scored, and three RBI.
For the week, Herrmann led the league in batting average (.583), going 14-24. He drove in 14, which also led the league, and scored seven times. His six extra-base hits, .655 on-base percentage, and 1.738 OPS also led the league. Herrmann was tied for the most home runs in the league during the week (3)
Chris Herrmann has had an impressive baseball career, playing eight years at the Major League level with the Minnesota Twins, Arizona Diamondbacks, Seattle Mariners, and Oakland Athletics. He is a career .205 hitter in 370 games. This is his 14th season of professional baseball. The catcher has appeared in 1116 career games, hitting .249 with 520 runs scored and 459 RBI.
