Kansas City Monarchs RHP Grant Gavin Named American Association Pitcher of the Week

Monarchs RHP Grant Gavin Named Pitcher of the Week
On Monday, This Week in the Association and the Minor League Sports Report named Kansas City Monarchs right-hander Grant Gavin as the Pitcher of the Week for Week 6 of the 2024 season. Gavin was dominant in his one start of his work.
The right-hander was spectacular in his one start of the week, tossing seven shutout innings in a 5-0 victory over the Milwaukee Milkmen. The right-hander allowed a leadoff single, then retired the next 11 hitters. He retired the minimum through the first 5.2 innings and gave up only four hits with no walks through seven when his night was over.
Grant was dominating the Milkmen, recording eight strikeouts through the first four innings, including striking out the side in the third. He struck out at least one batter in each of his seven innings.
Grant Gavin was selected in the 29th round of the 2016 round by the Kansas City Royals. He spent five seasons in the Royals organization before joining the San Diego Padres in 2022. Gavin reached the AAA level in both 2021 and 2022. In six seasons in the minors he went 25-12 with a 3.31 ERA and 20 saves.
Last season, the right-hander joined the Kansas City club, going 6-4 with a 3.88 ERA in 37 relief appearances. The season he moved to the starting rotation where he has been spectacular, going 3-1 with a 2.83 ERA in five starts and two relief appearances. Gavin has struck out a ridiculous 53 hitters in 35.0 innings pitched, walking just four batters.
