Kevin Hilton Gem Blanks Milkmen, 4-0
Texas avoids the sweep as the take the final game against the Milwaukee Milkmen, winning 4-0.
Righty, Kevin Hilton got the nod tonight and worked a great ballgame. He retired the first 6 Milwaukee hitters he faced before allowing a leadoff single in the top of the third. Nothing seemed to phase Hilton as he continued his quality outing late into the game.
The AirHogs bats got started quickly as well. A leadoff single by Li Ning in the bottom of the first, followed by a throwing error on Milwaukee shortstop, Cesar Valera and an RBI single by Stewart Ijames got Texas on the board, 1-0.
Later on in the bottom of the 3rd, Brett Eibner extended the AirHogs lead with a 2-run homerun to leftfield. The home run was Eibner’s third on the season, giving him 5 RBI.
However, Texas still wasn’t finished. The AirHogs added to their lead in the bottom of the 5th with an RBI single from Matt Dean, bringing the score to 4-0.
Hilton went on to throw 8 quality innings, allowing only 3 hits and walking 1 while striking out 9. With the win, Hilton moves to 3-6 on the season, as well as improving his ERA to 3.97.
Tyler Matzek came on in the top of the 9th to shut the door, facing only 4 batters and striking out 2.
The AirHogs will return to action tomorrow when they welcome the Lincoln Saltdogs. Texas will send RHP Erik Manoah to the bump, looking to shut down the Saltdog offence. First pitch is set for 7:05 PM at AirHogs Stadium in Grand Prairie.
