DockHounds RHP Nick Herold Named Pitcher of the Week

On Monday, This Week in the Association and the Minor League Sports Report named Lake Country DockHounds right-hander Nick Herold as the Pitcher of the Week for Week 4 of the 2023 American Association season. Herold posted a 1-1 record with a 1.29 ERA in two starts.

The first start for the right-hander was on Monday, when he allowed two earned runs in six innings in a 3-1 loss to the Kane County Cougars. Herold pitched very well in the game, allowing six hits and three walks while striking out seven. The DockHounds starter was pitted in a great pitchers’ duel against Tyler Beardsley. Herold gave up two singles to start the contest, then allowed just one hit through the next two innings. Kane County finally broke through with two runs in the fourth, but Herold allowed just one more hit over the final two innings. He threw 111 pitches in the outing, 68 for strikes.

On Saturday, Herold tossed a gem against the Winnipeg Goldeyes, throwing eight scoreless innings. The right-hander allowed just three hits and a walk while striking out eight. Herold allowed a single in the third, fifth, and sixth innings and gave up the lone walk in the second. He retired the final eight batters he faced, leaving after throwing exactly 100 pitches, 69 for strikes.

For the week, Nick Herold threw 14.0 innings, allowing nine total hits and four walks while striking out 15. He posted a .180 opponent batting average and a 0.93 WHIP.

Nick Herold began his professional career in 2022 when he joined the DockHounds. The right-hander went 1-1 with a 2.23 ERA in nine appearances, five of which were starts. The right-hander spent five seasons at Winona State University, posting an 8-10 record with a 5.15 ERA in 66 appearances.
