McIntyre Sharp But Wild Fall to Admirals in OT

Milwaukee, WI – Zane McIntyre made 45 saves, but it proved to be not enough as the Iowa Wild lost to the Milwaukee Admirals on Saturday in overtime, 2-1. Yaroslav Askarov had a light night between the pipes for the Admirals, making 16 saves. Denis Gurianov scored the game-winner in OT. Nic Petan had the only goal for Iowa.
Milwaukee had complete command of this game from the start, outshooting the Wild in the first period, 20-3. That included a stretch in the middle of the frame where Milwaukee had eight straight shots on McIntyre in the span of four minutes. However, the Wild netminder was outstanding in his best performance of the season.
At 6:12 of the second, the Admirals were finally able to break through. Jake Livingstone passed the puck to Jasper Weatherby whose initial shot was saved by McIntyre. However, Weatherby gained control of his own rebound, putting it past the Iowa netminder for his first goal of the year.
The one goal lead held for almost exactly six minutes before Petan tied the score. Steven Fogarty passed the puck to Sammy Walker at the right face-off circle, who lifted a wrist shot toward the net. Petan redirected the attempt past Askarov for his first goal of the season.
Milwaukee continued to pressure McIntyre in the third, outshooting the Wild, 15-6. The ice was definitely tilted toward the Iowa end, but the Wild goaltender kept his team in the contest, sending the game to overtime.
The extra session did not last long. Just 25 seconds into the frame Gurianov took the puck down the right wing, then sped across the crease, lifting a backhand attempt over the shoulder of McIntyre with the game-winner. It was the second goal of the season for Gurianov.
This was a very well-played game, with just five total penalties and three power-play opportunities. Milwaukee outshot Iowa, 47-17.
The Iowa Wild (2-4-1) are off until Thursday when they will welcome the Milwaukee Admirals (3-2-0) to Des Moines. The puck drops at 10:30 a.m.
