Michalczewski Homers But RedHawks Batter Canaries Staff
FARGO – The Sioux Falls Canaries (14-15) dropped their Saturday evening contest at Newman Outdoor Field 12-5. Trey Michalczewski and Nick Gotta each went deep in the loss.
Home runs by the duo helped the Birds build a 4-0 lead after one inning. Michalczewski’s three-run blast was his eighth of the year. Gotta’s solo shot was his second.
The RedHawks roared back from the early deficit with 12 runs from the third inning on. Tyler Garkow (1-3) suffered the loss on the mound after allowing eight runs (eight earned) in 4.2 innings of work. RedHawks starter Bret Helton (3-2) earned the win after firing four scoreless innings to limit damage after his rocky first. Fargo (18-12) was led by Manuel Boscan, who homered and scored three times in the game.
The Canaries got a scoreless eighth frame in relief by veteran designated hitter Jabari Henry. Henry had not logged a defensive inning before the game but entered late to post a zero on the mound. He notched his first professional strikeout in the appearance. The appearance on the mound was the first of his professional career. Logan Landon finished with a hit, a run, and an RBI.
The Canaries and Redhawks will decide the series tomorrow at 1:00 pm. RHP Angel Ventura (2-3, 7.14 ERA) will get the start for the Canaries. The Fargo starter is TBA. A live broadcast of the game will be available via Fox Sports 98.1 FM. The Redhawks will also stream the game live via American Association Baseball TV.
