Milkmen Blank Explorers, Railroaders Victorious in Slugfest, Apollos Prevail

Railroaders Outslug Canaries
The Cleburne Railroaders scored 12 runs through the first five innings, then held on for a 16-12 victory over the Sioux Falls Canaries. Cleburne scored three runs in the first and five in the fourth, then added a pair of runs in the second, fifth, seventh, and ninth innings. They held a 14-7 lead heading into the bottom of the eighth before the Canaries responded with five runs to cut the deficit to two, but Cleburne extended the lead back to four to close out the game.
Alay Lago and Osvaldo Martinez had a huge contest at the top of the order for Cleburne. Martinez finished 3-3 with three runs scored and an RBI while Lago went 4-5 with four runs scored. Ramon Hernandez drove in three for Cleburne. Jabari Henry homered and drove in four runs for Sioux Falls.

Grotjohn Leads Monarchs over RailCats
Ryan Grotjohn drove in two runs as part of a four-hit day is the Kansas City Monarchs defeated the Gary SouthShore RilCats 6-3. Darnell Sweeney had three hits and scored three runs for Kansas City as the team took the lead with a three-run fourth inning. Jake Matthys earned the victory in his first start for Kansas City, allowing two earned runs in six innings and Carlos Diaz closed out the contest.
Alec Olund drove in the long run for Gary. Jack Alkire took the loss, allowing four runs in five innings of work.

Four Run Fourth Propels Explorers to Victory
Connor Grey tossed seven outstanding innings to lead the Chicago Dogs to a 6-2 victory over the Sioux City Explorers. Grey allowed one run on four hits while striking out eight to earn his second win of the year. Chicago used a four run fourth inning to take command of this game. Harrison Smith drove in a pair of runs with a two-run double and Michael Crouse added an RBI single in the frame. Crouse would later steal home for the fourth run of the inning.
Jose Sermo continues to swing a hot bath for Sioux City, going 2-3 with a run in two RBI. He hit his eighth homerun of the season in the contest.

Peguero Homer Propels Apollos over Saltdogs
Yeiler Peguero hit a three-run homer to help lead the Houston Apollos to a 5-4 victory over the Lincoln Saltdogs. David Aldrich also went deep for Houston as part of a three-hit performance. Tyler Smith earned the victory, allowing three runs in six innings of work and Ryan Richardson came on to close out the game for his second save of the season.
Forrestt Allday had three hits and drove in a run and Josh Altmann had two hits for Lincoln. David Vidal went 1-3 with a run and an RBI.

Milkmen Blank RedHawks
The Milwaukee Milkmen scored two runs in the fourth and three runs in the fifth and that was more than enough as four pitchers combined to blank the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks, 5-0. Brian Johnson started for Milwaukee and went two innings before Ryan Boyer took over. Boyer went the next five, allowing just two hits while striking out five to earn the victory. Aaron Hill had two hits and scored two runs and Jay Charleston went 3-5 with a run and an RBI for the Milkmen. David Washington added his league-leading 10th homerun of the season.
The RedHawks got two hits out of Kevin Krause. Fargo had five hits in all.

Cougars-Goldeyes Postponed…Again
The double-header between the Kane County Cougars and the Winnipeg Goldeyes was washed out due to rain. Tuesday’s contest will be made up as part of a double-header on Thursday. Wednesdays regularly scheduled game will be made up as a double-header on August 21.
