Plus, American Association Player and Pitcher of the Week named. This and much more.
Monarchs Roll Past Railroaders
The Kansas City Monarchs hit four homeruns on Monday, including three in the fifth inning on their way to an 11-3 victory over the Cleburne Railroaders. This was a close contest through the first four frames, with the Monarchs holding a 4-3 edge. However, the team blew the game open in the bottom of the fifth sending nine men to the plate and hitting three homeruns. Willie Abreu drilled a two-run shot, his ninth of the year and Chad De La Guerra also added a two-run blast, his first homer since joining Kansas City. J.C. Escarra followed with his fourth of the year to make it 9-3.
That was more than enough support for Matt Hartman, who allowed one earned run in 6.0 innings to even his record at 2-2. Matt Adams also went deep for Kansas City, his 15th of the year. Jan Hernandez, Abreu, and Pete Kozma each had two hits for Kansas City.
Josh Lucas struggled in his first start since joining the Railroaders, allowing nine runs in 4.1 innings.

Delano, Saltdogs Win Pitcher’s Duel
Garett Delano allowed two runs in seven innings, outdueling Kane County Cougars starter Vance Worley to lead the Lincoln Saltdogs to a 3-2 victory on Monday. Lincoln took the lead in the bottom of the second on a double by Hunter Clanin but Kane County tied the score in the fourth when Jimmy Kerrigan singled home Steve Lombardozzi.
The Cougars took the lead in the top of the sixth on a sacrifice fly by Cornelius Randolph but the Saltdogs responded right away in the bottom half of the frame as Skyler Weber came home on a wild pitch. This game seemed destined for extra innings, but Clanin changed all that with one pitch in the bottom of the seventh, drilling his fifth homerun of the season to put Lincoln on top for good.
Delano came out after seven, allowing seven hits and one walk while striking out four. David Zoz pitched a scoreless eighth and Steffon Moore came on in the ninth to earn his third save the season. Worley allowed three runs in 7.0 innings, taking the loss.
