Noah Perio, Jr., Trey McNutt, Austin Robichaux Honored in Week 15
The Minor League Sports Report and This Week in the Association have named their Player and Pitcher of the Week for Week 15 of the American Association season. The Kansas City T-Bones Noah Perio, Jr. was named as the Player of the Week, while there is a co-Pitcher of the Week, as Austin Robichaux of the Lincoln Saltdogs and Trey McNutt of the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks were both chosen as the Pitcher of the Week.
Player of the Week: Noah Perio, Jr., Kansas City T-Bones
The Minor League Sports Report has named Kansas City T-Bones Noah Perio, Jr. as the Player of the Week for August 20-26. Perio had an unbelievable week offensively, hitting .414 with 7-runs scored and 18-RBI in 7-games.
Noah Perio, Jr. had hits in six of the seven games he played in this week. He started the week with three games against the Lincoln Saltdogs, where the infielder was 4-13 with 3-RBI. He was 2-5 with a double in the final game of the series.
That started a run of four straight contests where Perio had at least 2-hits in each game. The T-Bones welcomed the Winnipeg Goldeyes to town for a three-game series, and the infielder had an amazing series, going 8-13 with 7-runs scored and 15-RBI. That included knocking in seven on August 24, then following that up with six on the 25th. He homered twice in the game on August 24 and added three doubles in the series.
Perio saw his six game hitting streak come to an end on Sunday, when he was 0-3 against the Sioux City Explorers.
For the week, Noah Perio, Jr. was 12-29 with 4-doubles and 2-homers. He posted a .759 slugging percentage and a 1.244 OPS.
Perio is the second T-Bone to be named Player of the Week, joining Zach Walters (Week 5).
Pitcher of the Week: Austin Robichaux, Lincoln Saltdogs; Trey McNutt, Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks
The Minor League Sports Report had a first this week, as two were chosen as Pitcher of the Week in the American Association. Both Austin Robichaux of the Lincoln Saltdogs and Trey McNutt of the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks carried no-hit bids into the ninth inning of their last start.
Austin Robichaux took on the Cleburne Railroaders on August 23, and two hit by pitches in the third were all that stood in the way of him riding a perfect game heading into the ninth. Robichaux had retired 17 in a row entering the ninth, and would extend that run to 19 before Trevor Sealey doubled on a 1-0 pitch to break up the no-hit bid.
Austin Robichaux finished off the complete game shutout, allowing one hit and no-walks, while striking out 9.
One day later, Trey McNutt came within two outs of tossing the second no-hitter in the American Association this season. The RedHawks starter had a perfect game through six, striking out seven to that point. He walked Tillman Pugh to begin the seventh, but that would be the only batter to reach until the ninth. McNutt got a ground out to start the inning, but Cole Fabio worked the count to 2-2 before doubling down the right field line to break up the no-hit bid. A two out single would break up the shutout.
Trey McNutt allowed 2-hits, a walk, and a run in the complete game. He struck out 10, giving him 24 in his last 16 innings pitched.
Austin Robichaux earned the Pitcher of the Week honors for the second time, winning in Week 7. Michael Tamburino has also been honored for the Lincoln Saltdogs. Trey McNutt makes it back-to-back weeks for a RedHawks pitcher to earn the honors, as Will Solomon was chosen last week.
