Minor League Sports Report Names Tommy Collier, Noah Perio, Jr. August Honorees
On Sunday, the Minor League Sports Report and This Week in the Association named their Player and Pitcher of the Month for August in the American Association, with a pair of Kansas T-Bones earning the honors as Noah Perio, Jr. wins Player of the Month and Tommy Collier earns Pitcher of the Month for the second month in a row.
Player of the Month – August: Noah Perio, Jr., Kansas City T-Bones
The Kansas City T-Bones Noah Perio, Jr. was named as the Player of the Month for August in the American Association by the Minor League Sports Report. Perio had a record setting type of month, hitting .336 in 29 games with 40 RBI.
The Kansas City infielder had hits in 20 of the 29 games he played in, including multiple hits in 13 contests. He had a 4-hit game on August 28 and three 3-hit games during August.
Where he made his mark was in the number of runs he drove in. Noah Perio, Jr. would record 40 RBI in August more than half of his season total (72). That included four games where he drove in at least four in a single game, and he had a record setting performance against the Winnipeg Goldeyes when he drove in 15 in the three game set. That included a 7-RBI night on August 24 and a 6-RBI performance the following evening. Perio also drove in five in a dramatic 14-13 comeback victory the team won on August 28 over the Sioux City Explorers.
Twice during the month he had two home runs in the same game. The first came on August 16 against the Fargo-Moorehead RedHawks in a 9-8 victory. The second came on August 24 in the night when he drove in seven.
Noah Perio, Jr. is the second Kansas City T-Bones player to earn Player of the Month honors, joining Todd Cunningham who won in June.
Pitcher of the Month – August: Tommy Collier, Kansas City T-Bones
For the second straight month, the Kansas City T-Bones Tommy Collier was chosen as the Pitcher of the Month by the Minor League Sports Report. The right-hander established himself as the ace of the T-Bones in August winning six of his seven starts and the team won all seven starts he made. Overall, he was 6-0 with a 2.93 ERA.
It was an interesting month of performances by Tommy Collier. His first start came against the Sioux Falls Canaries on August 1, where he allowed 5-runs on 9-hits in 6-innings pitched. He struck out 7.
On August 6, Collier allowed 3-hits and one earned run in 7.1-innings pitched against the Texas AirHogs. He struck out 5. He followed up that performance on August 11 with another outstanding outing, allowing 4-hits and a lone run in a victory over the Sioux City Explorers.
On August 16, he recorded his only other sub-Collier-like performance, allowing 7-hits and 4-runs in a 5.0-inning no-decision. Collier followed that up with three straight victories, blanking the Lincoln Saltdogs for seven innings on August 21, then allowing 4-runs in a 6-inning outing on August 25. He closed the month with 6-hits and 12-strikeouts in 6.2-innings in a combined shutout of the Wichita Wingnuts. That restored the T-Bones lead over Wichita to 1.5 games.
