RailCats Set Franchise Mark, Rogers, Snyder, Bennett Homer Twice, Dogs Woes Continue

In today’s edition, Robert Pannier recaps the six games in the American Association on Friday, including Gary SouthShore RailCats blowing out the Milwaukee Milkmen to set a franchise record for runs, Jason Rogers and Gabe Snyder each over twice for their clubs, and the Chicago Dogs woes continue. This, plus much more.
Wolfe, Shumpert Power Railroaders
Hunter Wolfe drove in three and Nick Shumpert had four RBI as the Cleburne Railroaders defeated the Kane County Cougars, 11-3. Cleburne used two big innings to take an early lead. In the bottom of the second, Shumpert hit a grand slam, his seventh homerun of the season. Two batters later, Edwin Arroyo singled home Chuck Taylor to make it 5-0. In the third, a double and an error made it 7-0 and Chase Simpson delivered a two run double to extend the lead to nine.
That was more than enough support for Kevin Hilton, who allowed three runs in 6.0 innings. Three relievers combined to toss three scoreless innings. Taylor finished with four hits and scored a run. Wolfe was 3-5 with three runs scored and three RBI and Shumpert was 2-4 with a run and four RBI.
Dylan Busby hit his 11th homerun of the season for the Cougars, a two-run shot. Ernie De La Trinidad had two hits.
Henry Walk-Off Homer Gives Canaries Win in 11
Jabari Henry homered with one down in the bottom of the 11th inning, a three-run blast to give the Sioux Falls Canaries a 7-4 victory over the Lake Country DockHounds. Sioux Falls jumped out in front with a run of the bottom of the first only to see the DockHounds tie the score in the third. Both teams put up a pair of runs in the fourth, and exchanged single runs with the Canaries scoring in the bottom of the seventh and Lake Country responding with a run in the eighth.
That set up the dramatic 11th. With two on, Henry drilled his 26th homerun of the season, giving the Canaries a much-needed victory. Stevie Ledesma earned the victory, tossing 2.0 innings of scoreless relief. Ozzie Martinez had two hits, scored three runs, and drove in two. That included hitting his sixth homer of the season.
T.J. Bennett homered twice for the DockHounds Casey Dykstra and Jake Snider also went deep.
RailCats Set Franchise Record in Thrashing of Milkmen
The Gary SouthShore RailCats found themselves trailing by five after just one half inning on Friday, then responded by scoring 24 of the next 26 runs on their way to a 24-7 victory over the Milwaukee Milkmen. The 24 runs were a franchise record, and came on just 17 hits and five walks. Four Milkmen errors helped to make this contest a blowout.
Milwaukee took the 5-0 lead in the top of the first thanks to six hits as 10 men came to the plate. Gary got one of those runs back in the bottom half of the inning when Thomas Walraven led off with a homerun. Sam Abbott added a solo blast an inning later and the RailCats made this a one run game on a two-run triple by Daniel Lingua.
The Milkmen added a run of the top of the fifth, but the wheels came off in the bottom of the sixth as Gary SouthShore scored seven in the sixth, four in the seventh, and nine in the eighth. Victor Nova had a two-run triple in the sixth as the team scored seven runs on six hits. An inning later, Lingua added a two-run single. In the eighth, the club scored nine runs off just four hits as a RailCats sent 13 men to the plate. Nova had a three-run homer the close out the scoring.
Aaron Phillips earned the victory while Juan Echevarria took the loss. Walraven finished with three hits, four runs scored, and three RBI. Nova had two hits, two runs scored, and five runs driven in. Woodworth drove in four and Abbott scored four runs as every player in the RailCats lineup scored at least two runs in the contest. Bryan Torres had three hits and scored two runs for the Milkmen.

RedHawks Down Dogs
The Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks scored four unanswered runs and let Kevin McGovern did the rest, defeating the struggling Chicago Dogs, 4-2. The Dogs took the lead in the top of the first on an RBI single by Grant Kay, but Leobaldo Pina tied the score in the bottom half of the frame. Three innings later, Peter Maris drove home a run with an RBI single to put his team on top. Two innings later, a suicide squeeze by Christian Correa and an RBI single by Maris extended the lead to four.
McGovern did the rest, allowing two earned runs in 7.0 innings, striking out nine. Joe Jones tossed a scoreless eighth and Alex DuBord came on in the night to record his 21st save of the season. Drew Ward had four hits and Maris had three hits and drove in two. Nick Novak scored two runs. Charlie Tilson and Kay each had two hits for Chicago.
Snyder Homers Twice in Explorers Victory
Gabe Snyder homered twice and drove in three to help lead the Sioux City Explorers to a 7-5 victory over the Winnipeg Goldeyes. Sioux City took a two-run lead in the top of the first, only to see Winnipeg respond with single runs over the next two frames. In the fourth, the Explorers re-took the lead on an RBI single by Zack Kone and extended their lead to two in the top of the fifth on a base hit by Snyder.
The Goldeyes responded with a run in the bottom of the fifth to make this a one run game, but Snyder drilled a 1-1 pitch with one down the top of the seventh and Ademar Rifaela added an RBI double in the seventh, Winnipeg scored two runs in the bottom of the eighth on the first homerun of the season by Jacob Rhinesmith, but Snyder drilled his second homerun of the contest to seal the victory in the ninth.
Kevin McCanna earned the victory while Max Kuhns came on to earn his third save of the season. Rifaela had four hits while Snider had two hits, scored three runs, and drove in three. Rhinesmith had two hits, scored two runs, and drove in two for Winnipeg.

Rogers’ Two Homers Helps Saltdogs Draw First Blood
Jason Rogers homered twice and drove in five to help lead the Lincoln Saltdogs to an 11-5 victory over the Kansas City Monarchs in the first game of their series. The Saltdogs took the lead in the top of the first when Ryan Long doubled home a run and Josh Altmann followed with a three-run blast, his 14th of the year.
Kansas City chipped away at the lead, making it 5-4 entering the top of the eighth inning. Both teams plated a run in the inning, but the Saltdogs blew this game open in the top of the ninth as Rayder Ascanio delivered an RBI single and Rogers blasted a grand slam, his third homerun of the season, to make 11-5.
RJ Freure earned the victory, tossing 2.0 innings of scoreless relief, Matt Hartman took the loss. Rogers finished with two hits, three runs scored, and five RBI. Altmann drove in four. Matt Adams had four hits for Kansas City and David Thompson had two hits and scored three runs.
