Railroaders Roll RailCats, McGovern Blanks Canaries, Dogs Snap Skid

In today’s edition, Robert Pannier recaps the six games in the American Association on and say, including the Chicago Dogs snapping their 10-game losing streak, the Cleburne Railroaders down the Gary SouthShore RailCats, and Kevin McGovern shuts out the Sioux Falls Canaries. This, plus much more.
Tilson Homer Snaps Dogs Skid
Charlie Tilson drilled his fourth homerun of the season with one down in the top of the seventh inning to give the Chicago Dogs a 4-3 victory over the Kane County Cougars. The victory snapped the 10-game losing streak of Chicago, restoring their 3.5 game advantage over the Cougars in the East Division.
Chicago got off to a great start, plating three in the top of the second. Cody Bohanek delivered a single that brought home two and he later scored on a Tilson sacrifice fly. Jonathan Tripp made that lead over the first three frames, but Kane County got on the board in the bottom of the fourth, tying the score. An RBI single by Dylan Busby put the Cougars within two and Josh Rolette followed with an RBI double. He scored on a single by B. J. Lopez to knot the score at three.
The score remained tied in the seventh, but Tilson turned on a 1-0 offering from Vance Worley, putting Chicago on top for good. Shane Barringer earned the victory, tossing three scoreless innings of relief. Kevin Marnon came on in the night to record his second save of the season. Bohanek finished a perfect 3-3 with a run scored and an RBI. Cornelius Randolph and Lopez each had three hits for Kane County, who left 10 men on base.
Two Pair Beats Pair of Twos for DockHounds
The Lake Country DockHounds scored four runs in the fourth and sixth innings and single runs in the third and fifth on their way to a 10-5 victory over the Milwaukee Milkmen. Milwaukee came out of the bottom of the first with a two-run lead, but the DockHounds responded by scoring 10 of the next 11 runs.
After scoring a run in the third, Lake Country scored four in the fourth, sending nine men to the plate. In the fifth, the teams exchanged runs. Lamar Briggs hit his ninth homerun of the season to make it 6-2, and Bryan Torres it a sacrifice fly in the bottom half of the frame to bring Milwaukee back within three. However, a grand slam by Wilfredo Gimenez, his eighth homerun of the season, put this game away. Milwaukee added two more runs in the bottom of the eighth on a two-run blast by Will Kengor, but Lake Country shut the door from there.
Tristen Carranza finished with three hits and scored three runs for the DockHounds. Evan Kruczynski earned the victory, allowing three runs in 7.0 innings. Kengor had two hits and drove in three for Milwaukee.
McGovern Blanks Canaries
Kevin McGovern tossed eight shutout innings to earn his ninth victory of the season, as the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks defeated the Sioux Falls Canaries, 7-0. McGovern scattered four hits while walking none. He struck out seven to help the RedHawks earn their sixth straight victory. Luke Lind came on in the ninth to finish off the shutout.
Fargo-Moorhead gave their starter more than enough run support, scoring two in the second and third innings, a run in the fourth, and adding two more in the sixth. John Silviano gave his team the lead in the bottom of the second on a two-run blast, his 18th of the year. An inning later, Manuel Boscan hit a two-run shot, and he later added an RBI double in the fourth. In the sixth, Christian Correa hit a two-run shot, his third of the year to close out the scoring.
Boscan finish 2-4 with a run scored and three RBI. Correa scored twice and drove in two. Kona Quiggle had two hits for Sioux Falls.
Railroaders Crush RailCats to Jump Ahead in Standings
The Cleburne Railroaders scored 11 unanswered runs, crushing the Gary SouthShore RailCats, 13-2. The victory moved Cleburne 0.5 games ahead of Gary SouthShore in the East Division standings with about 18 games left to play.
Cleburne took the lead in the top of the first. Chuck Taylor led off the game with his sixth homerun of the season, and Chase Simpson later came home on an error. The RailCats responded with a run in the bottom half of the inning, but it was all Railroaders from there. Taylor doubled to extend the lead to two in the top of the second in the lead became five in the top of the fourth thanks to a two-run single by Edwin Arroyo and an RBI single by Zach Nehrir. In the seventh, Wyatt Mathisen hit a two-run homer and Kacy Clemens added a solo shot to make it 9-1. Cleburne added four more runs in the eighth, including a two run double by Clemens.
Kevin Hilton was fantastic for the Railroaders, allowing one run on five hits in 7.0 innings. Taylor finished with three hits, scored two runs, and drove in two. Mathisen and Clemens were both 2-4 with two runs scored and three RBI. Nate Scantlin had three hits for the RailCats.

Gilliam Shuts Down Goldeyes
Brock Gilliam allowed two runs on two hits in six innings to stymie the Winnipeg Goldeyes, as the Kansas City Monarchs earned a 7-3 victory, their fourth in a row. A two-run homer by Logan Hill in the fifth was the only runs scored against the right-hander. Three relievers came on to allow one run over the final three frames.
Kansas City took the lead in the top of the fourth, plating four. Gio Brusa singled home Kevin Santa to put Kansas City on top, and Alexis Olmeda followed with a two-run single to extend the lead to three. Brusa later came home on an error. In the fifth, Matt Adams led off with his 26th homerun of the season. Hill responded with a two-run shot in the bottom half of the frame, but Kansas City put this game away with two in the ninth.
Adams finished with two runs scored and two RBI. Mallex Smith had two hits and scored a run. Hill finished 3-4 with a run in two RBI and Ian Sagdal had two hits.

Saltdogs Hang on to Down Explorers
The Lincoln Saltdogs jumped out to a 5-1 lead, then held on to defeat the Sioux City Explorers, 5-4. Sioux City took the lead in the bottom of the first on the seventh homerun of the season by Danry Vasquez, but Lincoln jumped out in front of the top of the third. Randy Norris tied the score with his third homerun of the season, and Rayder Ascanio hit a two-run blast two batters later to put the Saltdogs on top, 3-1. It was the fourth homerun of the season for Ascanio.
In the fourth, Lincoln extended the lead to three on an RBI single by Norris, and made it 5-1 in the sixth when Justin Byrd drove home Hunter Clanin with an RBI single. Zach Keenan was rolling in this contest, allowing one run in six innings. Jonathan Cheshire came on and tossed a scoreless seventh, but Sioux City rallied against lefty Steffon Moore in the eighth, scoring three runs on just two hits to pull within a run. Matt Cronin took over to close the door, recording the final four outs for his second save of the season.
Byrd finished with three hits for the Saltdogs and Ascanio, Ryan Long and Norris each had two hits. Ademar Rifaela had two doubles for the Explorers.

The Chicago Dogs snap to their 10-game losing streak on Wednesday. That was tied for the longest losing streak in the American Association this season… Milwaukee Milkmen OF Bryan Torres went 1-3 on Wednesday. His batting average is right at .400. Torres is currently on a 21-game hitting streak, three-game short of the longest in the league this year… Kansas City Monarchs 1B Matt Adams hit his 26th homerun of the season on Wednesday, tying him for the league lead. His 82 RBI now leads the American Association.
