The Sioux City Explorers remained incredibly hot, winning five of six games this week. The Explorers won six in a row before falling Thursday night to Winnipeg. Sioux City responded by winning the final Friday and Saturday to give them eight wins in nine games.
The three-game sweep of Amarillo began with a 10-inning 5-4 victory Monday night. The Thunderheads took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first before the Explorers jumped to a 4-1 lead. Amarillo tied the score in the bottom of the seventh. A sacrifice fly scored Noah Piero with the Explorers fifth run of the game. Billy Bullock won his first game of the season in relief and Jose Flores saved his American Association leading seventh game of the year.

The final game of the series was a 10-9 slugfest. The Explorers jumped out to a 7-0 lead before Amarillo plated five in the bottom of the third to pull within two. Three runs in the middle innings extended Sioux City’s lead to 10-5, but the Thunderheads knocked in four in the bottom of the seventh to pull within one.
