In today’s edition, This Week in the Association and the Minor League Sports Report name Sioux Falls Canaries left-hander Tanner Brown as the Pitcher of the Week for Week 10 of the 2024 American Association season.

Canaries LHP Tanner Brown Named Pitcher of the Week

On Monday, This Week in the Association and the Minor League Sports Report named Sioux Falls Canaries left-hander Tanner Brown as the Pitcher of the Week for Week 9 of the 2024 season. Brown had an impressive week, winning both of his starts while posting a 0.64 ERA.

His first start came on Tuesday when he allowed one run in eight innings against the Gary SouthShore RailCats. Brown dominated, allowing a single hit in the second, third, and fourth innings. The RailCats were finally able to get on the scoreboard in the fifth when they pieced together three hits but Brown was able to get out of the jam, leaving two on. In the sixth he retired Gary SouthShore in order, and did not allow a hit over his final three innings. The left-hander left after allowing one run on five hits and two walks in eight innings. He struck out six.

Brown was on top of his game in his next start, tossing six shutout innings against the Winnipeg Goldeyes. The left-hander allowed three hits and a walk while striking out seven. He retired 13 of the first 14 batters he faced, and was only in trouble in the fifth when he gave up a one-out hit and a walk. In the sixth he gave up a two-out double, but stranded that runner as well.

For the week, the left-hander allowed eight hits and three walks in 14.0 innings, striking out 13. Brown posted a 0.79 WHIP and had a .174 opponent batting average.

Tanner Brown is in his third season as a professional. He signed with Great Falls (Pioneer League) in 2022, posting a 6.37 ERA in nine appearances. The following season the left-hander moved to the Lincoln Saltdogs, where he was going 4-7 with a 5.78 ERA in 17 starts and one relief appearance. This season Brown has turned things around, going 7-3 with a 2.84 ERA in 12 starts.

Brown is the fourth Sioux Falls pitcher to earn honors this season. Ryan Zimmerman received Pitcher of the Week in Week 1, Ty Culbreth earned the honor the following week, and Seth Miller was the Week 8 winner.
