Sioux Falls Canaries OF Josh Rehwaldt Named American Association Player of the Week

Canaries OF Josh Rehwaldt Named Player of the Week
On Monday, This Week in the Association and the Minor League Sports Report Sioux Falls Canaries outfielder Josh Rehwaldt as the Player of the Week for Week 10 of the 2024 season. Rehwaldt was on fire, hitting .435 while driving in eight.
The Canaries began the week with a three-game series against the Gary SouthShore RailCats and Rehwaldt was red-hot, recording two hits in each of the contests. He opened the series with a 2-4 performance, scoring twice and driving in two. One of his hits was a double and he walked twice in the victory. He then went 2-4 with a run scored and four RBI, hitting his 13th home run of the season. The infielder also added his second double of the week. He closed out the series going 2-4. In fact, Rehwaldt went 2-4 in all three games, going a combined 6-12 with three runs scored, two doubles, a home run, and six RBI.
Next, Sioux Falls welcomed the Winnipeg Goldeyes to town, and Rehwaldt continued the hit parade, going 4-11 in the series with a run scored, a double, a triple, and two RBI. He went 2-4 in the opener, his sixth straight game with at least two hits. Rehwaldt then added a double and an RBI in the second game and a triple and an RBI in the third. He closed the week extending his hitting streak to 11 straight games.
For the week, Josh Rehwaldt was 10-23, hitting .435, fourth best. His eight RBI led the league, and he was third in slugging (.783).
Josh Rehwaldt attended the University of Sioux Falls, where he finished with a .368 batting average in four seasons. After graduation, the outfielder signed with the Canaries, playing in 29 games in 2019 where he hit .283 with 13 runs scored and 14 RBI. The following season, Rehwaldt signed with the Washington Wild Things (Frontier League), appearing in 17 games where he hit .309 with four homers and 14 runs scored. In 2021, the outfielder re-signed in the Frontier League, this time joining the New Jersey Jackals where he remained through 2023. Rehwaldt was a hit machine for New Jersey, hitting .300 in 2021, .325 in 2022, and .315 last season. He also clubbed 29 homers in each of the last two years.
This season, Rehwaldt returned to Sioux Falls where he had been an MVP candidate. The outfielder has played at first base, and in right and left field. Through the first 57 games, Rehwaldt is hitting .346 with 13 home runs, 49 RBI, and 48 runs scored. He also has 11 stolen bases, a .427 on-base percentage, and a .664 slugging percentage.
