In American Association Daily, the Minor League Sports Report names their American Association Player and Pitcher of the Week for Week 8 as chosen by Robert Pannier and Kevin Luckow, with Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks outfielder Tim Colwell being named Player of the Week and Sioux Falls Canaries starter Cesilio Pimentel earned the top honor as the best pitcher during the week.
Tim Colwell, Cesilio Pimentel Honored in Week 8
The Minor League Sports Report has named their Player and Pitcher of the Week for Week 8 of the 2018 American Association season. There were a number of great pitching and hitting performances during the week, but Sioux Falls Canaries starter Cesilio Pimentel stood out for Pitcher of the Week and Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks outfielder Tim Colwell distinguished himself to be named the Player of the Week.
Player of the Week: Fernando Perez, Wichita Wingnuts
Fargo-Moorhead outfielder Tim Colwell was named by the Minor League Sports Report as the Player of the Week for Week 8 in the American Association. The outfielder had a huge week, hitting .467, while leading the league in both hits (14) and runs scored (10). He also led in doubles (6) and extra base hits (8).
The RedHawks went 5-2 during the week, and much of that had to do with the performance of Colwell. He had hits in all seven games during the week, including five multi-hit games.
He started out with a 6-12 performance against the St. Paul Saints, his team from last season. Fargo-Moorhead lost two of those three games, but Colwell scored 2-runs in each of the three contests and had 3-doubles in the second game of the series. He also drove in a run in each game of the series.
The team then welcomed the Winnipeg Goldeyes, who they would sweep. In the four games, Tim Colwell was 8-18 with 4-runs scored and an RBI. He also stole three bases in the series, giving him five for the week. He had a double and two triples in the series.
Tim Colwell finished third in slugging (.800), had an on-base percentage of .484, and finished second in OPS (1.284) for the week. He became the first Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks player to be honored.
Pitcher of the Week: Cesilio Pimentel, Sioux Falls Canaries
Sioux Falls Canaries starter Cesilio Pimentel was named as the Pitcher of the Week by the Minor League Sports Report. The right-hander made just one start during the week, but made the most of it, tossing six no-hit innings and giving up four total hits in eight innings in a 1-0 Canaries win over the Gary Southshore RailCats.
The start came on July 6. Pimentel was locked into a great pitcher’s duel with Jeff McKenzie as neither team scored through the first four innings. Sioux Falls took the lead in the fifth on a Jordan Dean RBI single and the righty made it stand.
Pimentel gave up a two out walk in the first, then retired 16 in a row. His no-hit bid finally came to an end with a leadoff single in the top of the seventh. The right-hander left after 8-innings, yielding 4-hits and walk, while striking out 7. Of his 94 pitches, 71 went for strikes.
Cesilio Pimentel is the first Sioux Falls Canaries player to be honored this season.
