Colwell, Jordan Honored in Week 4
The Minor League Sports Report and This Week in the Association have chosen their Player and Pitcher of the Week for Week 4 in the American Association. Sioux City Explorers right-hander Taylor Jordan was named the Pitcher of the Week after tossing a complete game shutout while Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks outfielder Tim Colwell was named the Player of the Week after hitting .500.
Player of the Week – Week 4: Tim Colwell, Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks
Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks outfielder Tim Colwell was chosen as the Player of the Week for Week 4. This comes after he hit .500 (12-24) in six games, leading the league in runs scored (10) while adding seven RBI. He also had 2 homers and 2 doubles with 6 walks.
Colwell recorded multiple hits in five of the six games he appeared in this week. He began the week with a three game series against the Lincoln Saltdogs, going 7-12 with 6 runs scored and 6 RBI. He began by going 2-3 with 2 runs and 2 walks on June 3 and then went 3-5 with a run, a double and 3 RBI in a 10-5 victory. In the final game of the series, the RedHawks outfielder was 2-4 with 3 runs scored, 3 RBI, a homer and a walk.
The team moved onto Sioux City where he helped the RedHawks win two of the three games. In the opening matchup on June 7, Colwell was 2-4 with a run scored. He then had his only performance of the week where he did not record a hit, going 0-3 with a run scored, but he did walk twice in the 8-7 loss. In the rubber match, the outfielder was 3-5 with 2 runs, a double and a homer. He added an RBI. Overall, he went 5-12 with 4 runs, a double, homer, and RBI against the Explorers.
For the week, Tim Colwell posted an impressive .600 on-base percentage and a .833 slugging percentage. His 1.433 OPS led the American Association.
Pitcher of the Week – Week 4: Taylor Jordan, Sioux City Explorers
Sioux City Explorers right-hander Taylor Jordan was named the Pitcher of the Week. Jordan tossed a complete game shutout against the Winnipeg Goldeyes on June 6, allowing 3 hits and no walks while striking out 6.
The shutout was just what the doctor ordered for the Explorers. After losing the first three games of the series, two of which came in walk-off fashion, Jordan delivered a stellar performance, needing just 88 pitches to deliver the complete game. He threw 61 for strikes.
The performance looked like it would get off to a rough start when the Goldeyes got a single and a double to begin the bottom half of the first. However, Jordan induced a double-play before getting a ground out to end the threat. He would allow just on more hit, a single in the third, and that runner was erased on a double-play. Jordan retired the final 19 batters he faced, and finished just one over the minimum.
It was the first complete game shutout for Taylor Jordan in an Explorers’ uniform.
