Minor League Sports Report Names June Honorees

The Minor League Sports Report and This Week in the Association have named their Player and Pitcher of the Month for June in the American Association selecting Cleburne Railroaders starter Jared Mortensen as the Pitcher of the Month for June and Kansas City T-Bones outfielder Todd Cunningham as the Player of the Month.

Player of the Month – June: Todd Cunningham, Kansas City T-Bones

Todd Cunningham of the Kansas City T-Bones has been named as the Player of the Month for June in the American Association after hitting .455 in 26 games during the month. That average led the league for June. He also scored 27 runs, added 11-doubles, and drove in 19-runs.

Cunningham had hits in all but four of the games he appeared in, and had three 4-hit games during June. He also recorded multiple hit games 16 times, including in each of the last five games of June. Cunningham is currently riding a five game hitting streak where he has gone 15-23.

Cunningham added 23 walks to help boost his on-base percentage to .550. He also posted a .604 slugging percentage. His slugging percentage, on-base percentage, and OPS led the American Association for the month. He only struck out 10 times in 101 at-bats.

Pitcher of the Month – June: Jared Mortensen, Cleburne Railroaders

Jared Mortensen of the Cleburne Railroaders was named as the Pitcher of the Month in the American Association for June. The righty posted a 1.49 ERA in five starts, going 1-1.

Mortensen was dominating in his first two starts of June, but had very little to show for it. He allowed a single run in an 8-inning outing on June 2 against St. Paul, striking out 10, then held the Lincoln Saltdogs scoreless through 6.2-innings, also earning a no decision.

On June 14, he earned his only win of the month, allowing 2-earned runs in 8-innings against the Wichita Wingnuts, but took a loss on June 19 when he had his shortest outing of the season, going 5.2-innings against the Gary Southshore RailCats. He went 8-innings against the Sioux Falls Canaries on June 26, allowing no runs.

Mortensen struck out 10 in two different outings and had 30 total strikeouts for the month. His ERA was the second best in the American Association. The right-hander allowed 27-hits and 18-walks in 36.1-innings pitched. He was second in the league in innings pitched during June.
