Trevin Kozlowski Names ECHL Community Service Award Winner
On Friday, the ECHL announced that Iowa Heartlanders goaltender Trevin Kozlowski is the winner of the 2021-22 ECHL Community Service Award. This award is given to those who work tirelessly to support their community as well as charitable causes during the 2021-22 season and players from throughout the league were nominated for this award.
Kozlowski was chosen from among a list of worthy candidates, but his work with the Iowa City VA Medical Center made him the clear choice for the league. Kozlowski specifically works with the Salute to the Fallen program, which provides financial assistance and helps veterans and Gold Star families by bringing to light such issues as veteran suicide, PTSD, homelessness, financial struggles, and much more.
In November, the Heartlanders goaltender launched “Trevin’s Tickets,” a personal initiative where he donated two tickets for every home game to an active or retired military person. All recipients were able to meet and talk with Kozlowski following games. Even when Kozlowski was up with the Iowa Wild (AHL), he still continued to provide tickets for veterans and active service members.
Kozlowski logged over 50 hours of community service and volunteer time and plans to have a year-end reception with all the individuals who received tickets during the year. His hope is that through these efforts the plight of those service members struggling to reintegrate back into society following prolonged conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan will lead to awareness and action from members within the community.
Trevin Kozlowski was chosen from among 10 other candidates, including : Pete MacArthur (Adirondack), Malcolm Hayes (Atlanta), John McCarron (Florida), Keoni Texeira (Indy), Loren Ulett (Kansas City), Todd Skirving (Newfoundland), Adam Carlson (Rapid City), Jake Coleman (South Carolina), Adam Smith (Wheeling) and Anthony Repaci (Worcester).
