Wallstedt Stops 24 Shots to Blank Chicago, 4-0
ROSEMONT, IL – Jesper Wallstedt stopped all 24 shots he made as the Iowa Wild defeated the Chicago Wolves, 4-0. The victory was the third in a row for Iowa (6-5-1). Four different players scored goals for the Wild, and Adam Beckman had two points.
Steven Fogarty provided the only goal that Wallstedt would need when he netted his fourth tally of the season 7:30 into the contest. A great outlet pass by Brendan Miller sent Fogarty through the neutral zone and in on goaltender Keith Kincaid. Fogarty beat the Wolves goaltender with a wrist shot past the glove side to make it 1-0.
That one goal lead held through the first intermission, but the Wild began to blow this game open in the second. At 7:36, Carson Lambos scored his first goal of the season. Lambos was in the penalty box for a double minor, and came out in just as Greg Meireles fed the puck up the boards. Lambos went in on a breakaway, beating Kincaid with a shot over the shoulder, doubling the Iowa advantage.
With 13 seconds left in the first, the Wild scored a power-play goal to extend the lead to three. Beckman passed the puck to Adam Welinski at the point, who blasted a shot past the Wolves netminder for his second goal of the year.
Beckman closed out the scoring 2:14 into the third when he netted his fourth goal of the season. Ryan O’Rourke blasted a shot that hit off the boards and came out to Beckman in front. He deflected the rebound off Kincaid and in to make it 4-0.
Wallstedt was spectacular on this evening, facing just three shots in the first, but stopping 10 in the second and 11 more in the third. Chicago went 0-6 with the man advantage as the Iowa netminder made a number of spectacular saves, including seven during the four-minute power-play.
The Iowa Wild will now head home where they will take on the Rockford IceHogs (5-4-0) in a two-game set starting on Saturday. The puck drops at 6:00.
