Winnipeg Goldeyes OF Max Murphy Named American Association Player of the Week

Goldeyes OF Max Murphy Named Player of the Week
On Monday, This Week in the Association and the Minor League Sports Report named Winnipeg Goldeyes outfielder Max Murphy as the Player of the Week for Week 4 of the 2024 season. Murphy had an impressive week, hitting .500 with eight runs scored and 11 RBI.
Murphy began the week with a three-game set in Fargo-Moorhead against the RedHawks. The Goldeyes superstar went 5-12 in the series, scoring four runs, while driving in six. He opened the series with a 1-4 performance, then went 2-4 with two runs scored, a homer, and four RBI in a 7-2 victory over the RedHawks. He closed out the series with a 2-4 performance, scoring a run and driving in two.
Next, the Goldeyes returned home to welcome the Lincoln Saltdogs, and Murphy was incredible, going a combined 8-14 with four runs scored and five RBI. Murphy opened the series by going 3-4 with a run, a double, and two RBI. He then went 2-4 with a run scored in the second game, saving the best for Game 3 of the series, where he went 3-5, with two runs scored, a home run, and three RBI. He also walked in the closing contest, giving him a walk in four of his final five games during the week.
For the week, Murphy hit .500 (13-26), second best in the league. He was tied for first in funs scored (8), was second in RBI (11), was third in slugging percentage (.808), on-base percentage (.567), and OPS (1.375). Murphy had hits in all six games, extending his hitting streak to 10 games, and he scored a run in all six contests, giving him a run scored in seven straight games.
Max Murphy was selected in the ninth round of the 2014 draft by the Minnesota Twins. He spent four seasons in the Twins organization before being released in 2018. Murphy joined the St. Paul Saints, where he hit .319 in 98 games, scoring 70 times and driving in 62. The next season Murphy returned to affiliate ball, playing for the Arizona Diamondbacks where he reached AA-Chattanooga. He was back in St. Paul later that season and spent 2020 with the Saints as well.
In 2021, Murphy joined the Winnipeg Goldeyes where he hit 13 homers and posted a .307 batting average in 99 games. In 2022, he had a huge season, hitting 31 homers and driving in 97 in 100 games. Last season, Murphy hit 26 homers in 99 games, posting a .289 batting average. This season, the outfielder is hitting .275 with five homers and 24 RBI through the first 22 games.
