Young Extends Scoreless Streak, Saltdogs Rally, Wasinger Homers Twice

In today’s edition, Robert Pannier recaps the six games in the American Association on Friday, including Milwaukee Milkmen right-hander extending his scoreless streak, the Lincoln Saltdogs rally to earn walk-off victory, and Daniel Wasinger homers twice for the Kane County Cougars.

Wasinger Homers Twice to Lead Cougars Victory
Daniel Wasinger homered twice and drove in four to help lead the Kane County Cougars to an 8-3 victory over the Lake Country DockHounds. That helped to make a winner of Tyler Beardsley, who moved to 2-1, allowing two earned runs in 6.0 innings.
The game was tied at one headed to the bottom of the fourth when the Cougars ignited for four runs on just three hits. Nick Herold started for Lake Country and gave up a leadoff walk to Galli Cribbs, Josh Allen followed with a double that brought Cribbs all the way around to put Kane County on top. An RBI single by T.J. Bennett made it 3-1 and Jonah Davis was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to drive home another run. The final run came home when Wasinger followed with a walk. Wasinger added a solo homer in the sixth and a two-run shot in the eighth.
Bennett finished 2-4 with a run and an RBI and Cornelius Randolph scored twice and hit his second home run of the year. Blake Tiberi was 3-5 with a run and two RBI for Lake Country.
Hartman Closes Door on Monarchs Victory
Matt Hartman came on in the sixth and shut the door on the Winnipeg Goldeyes, tossing four scoreless frames as the Kansas City Monarchs earned an 8-2 victory. Brandon Finnegan earned the win, allowing two runs in five innings, and Hartman dominated from there, tossing four hitless innings to earn his first save of the year.
Kansas City took command of this game early, scoring single runs in each of the first two innings, then exploding for four in the third. Justin Wylie capped off the scoring in the third with a two-run single. Winnipeg cut the deficit to four in the fourth, but the Monarchs added single runs in the fifth and sixth to seal the win.
Dylan Rosa had four hits and scored a run for the Monarchs and Wylie finished with three hits and three RBI. Dayson Croes had two hits and Brynn Martinez drove in both runs for the Goldeyes.
Young Steak Continues in Milkmen Victory
Christian Young extended his scoreless inning streak to 21 straight games, leading the Milwaukee Milkmen to a 5-2 victory over the Sioux City Explorers. Young tossed six scoreless frames for the third straight outing. The righty allowed two hits and two walks while striking out five.
The Milkmen staked their starter to a five-run lead, scoring two in the second and sixth innings and adding a run in the fifth. Miguel Gomez led off the second with his third homer of the year and Bryan Torres added an RBI single. In the fifth, Gabriel Cancel singled to score Torres, and a double by Torres and a balk brought home the final two runs for the Milkmen.
Sioux City finally got on the board after Young left the game, adding single runs in the seventh and eighth innings. However, Nate Hadley came on in the ninth to shut the door, earning his seventh save of the season. Torres was a perfect 3-3 with two runs and two RBI and Cancel had two hits. No Explorers player had more than one hit.
Sermo Homers in Railroaders Victory
Jose Sermo hit his league leading 10th homer of the year, helping the Cleburne Railroaders to a 10-5 victory over the Gary SouthShore RailCats. Cleburne trailed in this game by three coming out of the fifth, but scored 10 unanswered runs over the next three frames to take command of this game.
Gary scored a run in the third and added two more in the fourth. The Railroaders cut the deficit to one in the sixth, then scored four in the seventh and added five more in the eighth. Sermo had three hits, including a two-run homer, and Delino DeShields added a three-run home run and scored twice. Brian Klein also had three hits for Cleburne. Miguel Ausua earned the victory, tossing two scoreless innings of relief.
Edward Cuello pitched very well for the RailCats, allowing just one run in six innings, but his bullpen failed him. Jose Contreras had three hits and LG Castillo and Daniel Lingua each had two hits for Gary.
Saltdogs Rally to Down Canaries in Ninth
The Lincoln Saltdogs had no answers for the Sioux Falls Canaries pitching staff through eight, but rallied for three runs in the ninth inning to down Sioux Falls, 3-2. That spoiled a great outing for Neil Lang, who tossed seven shutout innings, allowing just one hit. Zach Keenan pitched very well for Lincoln, allowing two runs in seven innings.
The game was scoreless through three, but the Canaries scored single runs in the fourth and fifth innings to take the lead. Mike Hart doubled home a run in the fourth and Jordan Barth added a sacrifice fly in the fifth. The Saltdogs had just one hit through the eighth, but Charlie Hasty came on in the ninth and Lincoln quickly rallied. Nick Anderson led off with a walk and came all the way around to score when Yanio Perez followed with a double. A single by Will Kengor put runners at the corners for Nate Samson, who tied the game with a sacrifice fly. The Saltdogs loaded the bases on walks and Drew Devine delivered the walk-0ff hit, singling up the middle to give Lincoln the victory.
Welington Dotel and Wyatt Ulrich each had two hits for Sioux Falls and Perez had two of the four hits for Lincoln.
Seven-Run Fourth Propels RedHawks
The Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks trailed by one entering the fourth, but exploded for seven runs to lead them to a 10-6 victory over the Chicago Dogs. Chicago held a 2-1 lead entering the fourth, but Ryan O’Reilly could not hold the RedHawks down. B.J. Lopez put Fargo-Moorhead on top for good with an RBI single and Leobaldo Pina later added a bases clearing double.
Each team put up two in the sixth. Luke Mangieri hit a two-run homer for the Dogs and Correlle Prime added a two-run double. Chicago added two more runs in the eighth, but could get no closer.
Evan Alexander went 3-3 with two runs and two walks. Manuel Boscan was 2-4 with two runs and an RBI. Matt Bottcher had three hits for the Dogs, and Mangieri drove in three.
