AirHogs Swept in Double-Header with Explorers
The AirHogs dropped both ends of a double header 3-1 and 18-3 respectively. Zech Lemond pitches a gem and actually pitched a 6 inning complete game in the loss. Game two on the other hand got out of hand early as the Explorers scored in every inning but the 1st.
Zech Lemond pitched 6 innings of four hit, three run baseball but the offense just couldn’t push across enough runs to get Lemond into the winners circle for the first time this season. Lemond made only two mistakes all day. A two run double off the bat of Luke Bomfield in the 2nd put the Explorers up 2-0. Then after the AirHogs cut the lead in half 2-1 in the top of the 5th, Michael Lang answered with a leadoff homerun in the 6th, putting Sioux City on top 3-1, a score that would go final.
Game 2 was started by Travis Ballew. Travis retired the first 5 batters he faced, but after a 2 out error on Stewart Ijames allowed Dexture McCall to reach, the Explorers answered with three straight hits, two of which were doubles, putting Sioux City up 3-1.
The Explorers played add on from there with four runs in the 3rd, two in the 4th, one in the 5th, and eight in the 6th. All in all the Sioux City offense produced 18 runs in game 2 of the double header.
The AirHogs return home tomorrow to start a 6 game home stand. Starting with 3 games against the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks. The AirHogs will throw Kevin Hilton and the TedHawks have yet to announce a starter.
