Altmann, Weber Homer But Saltdogs Fall Late
LINCOLN, Nebraska – Josh Altmann went 2-for-2 with a two-run homer, Carson Lance struck out a season-high seven batters in relief, but the ‘Dogs fell 6-5 to the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks at Haymarket Park on Friday night.
Altmann hit his team-leading 13th homer to give Lincoln (22-24) a 2-1 lead in the 1st before Skyler Weber hit a two-run homer to make it 4-1 in the 2nd.
Carson Lance came on in relief after Adolfo Espinoza allowed four runs over three innings, and the right-hander struck out seven over four innings – the most for a Lincoln reliever in a game this season.
Lance walked the first two hitters in the 8th after the ‘Dogs tied the game on a balk in the 7th, and Tyler Anderson eventually walked in the go-ahead run to give Fargo-Moorhead (27-21) the lead for good.
The ‘Dogs put the tying run at 2nd with one out in the 9th, but after Justin Byrd flied out for the second out, Forrestt Allday lined out to the shortstop Sam Dexter playing up the middle in a shift to end the game.
The ‘Dogs walked seven times and struck out only once, but hit into a season-high five double plays and lost for only a third time in seven games against the North Division this year.
Weber’s homer was his first since May 23rd in Cleburne, while Edgar Corcino doubled for the third time in two games. Gunnar Buhner went 1-for-2 with a walk, and Justin Byrd had his second multi-hit game of the homestand.
The ‘Dogs and RedHawks continue the three-game series on Saturday. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. and pregame coverage begins at 6:35 p.m. on ESPN Lincoln 101.5 FM/1480 AM.
