Daily Recaps: August 15, 2019
Eight Run First Propels Railroaders, 9-1
The battle for the South Division got off to an inauspicious start for the Sioux City Explorers, as the Cleburne Railroaders scored eight runs in the first on their way to a 9-1 victory. Sioux City starter Carlos Sierra, who entered the contest undefeated this season, lasted just three innings. Meanwhile, Cleburne starter Stephen Johnson allowed a single run in seven innings for his eighth victory of the year. Daniel Robertson, Angel Reyes, and Ryan Brett each drove in a pair of runs for the Railroaders.
Dogs Maul Goldeyes, 13-0
Jake Dahlberg combined with two relievers to blank the Goldeyes as the Chicago Dogs opened their series with a 13-0 mauling of Winnipeg. Victor Roache hit his 2oth homer of the season and drove in three runs. Gustavo Pierre also drove in three for Chicago, adding his third homerun of the year. Dahlberg tossed seven shutout innings, allowing three hits while striking out four.
Motl Leads Saints to Victory, 7-4
Dan Motl homered on the third pitch of the contest to help lead the St. Paul Saints to a 7-4 victory over the Lincoln Saltdogs. St. Paul would jump out to a 7-0 lead behind five shutout innings from Jake Matthys, but the Saltdogs would finally get to the Saints starter in the sixth, scoring three runs. The bullpen would shut the door, however, as Mike Devine tossed the final inning for his second save of the season. Motl finished with three hits and two runs scored, and Chesny Young was 2-3 with two runs, two RBI, and his fifth homer of the year.
Pike Peaks to Lead RedHawks, 4-2
Tyler Pike allowed two runs in six innings as the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks defeated the Sioux Falls Canaries on Thursday, 4-2. Fargo would score all of their runs in the fourth, as T.J. Bennett blasted a three run homer to provide the margin of victory. Geoff Broussard came on in the ninth to record his 23rd save of the season.
Hougesen Gem Leads RailCats, 2-1
Seth Hougesen tossed six shutout innings as the Gary Southshore RailCats defeated the Milwaukee Milkmen, 2-1. Marcus Mooney drove in both runs for the RailCats with a two run double in the bottom of the fourth. Sandy Lugo came on in the bottom of the eighth and tossed the final 1.2 innings for his seventh save of the season.
