In today’s edition of American Association Daily, Robert Pannier examines the highlights, transactions and news from the American Association for August 18, 2019. There were six games played on Sunday, including the St. Paul Saints crushing the Winnipeg Goldeyes and the Kansas City T-Bones doubling up the Sioux City Explorers.
Daily Recaps: August 18, 2019
T-Bones Down Explorers, 6-3
Jonathan Perrin allowed three runs in seven innings as the Kansas City T-Bones drew first blood in their series with the Sioux City Explorers, 6-3. Mason Davis and Danny Mars were both 3-5 with a run and an RBI for Kansas City. The victory moved the T-Bones 1.5 games ahead of Sioux City in the South Division standings.
Railroaders Blast Canaries, 16-6
A five run sixth and a six run seventh helped propel the Cleburne Railroaders over the Sioux Falls Canaries, 16-6. Chase Simpson homered twice and drove in five runs. Grant Bach had three hits and four RBI to help lead the Cleburne offense. Clint Coulter homered and drove in two for Sioux Falls.
Saints Bury Goldeyes, 17-5
The St. Paul Saints scored six runs in the fourth and six in the ninth as they crushed the Winnipeg Goldeyes, 17-5. Brady Shoemaker and Chris Baker each had four hits. Baker drove in five, and Shoemaker, Michael Lang, and Jabari Henry each drove in three. Dominic Ficociello drove in all five runs for Winnipeg, adding two home runs.
Barnum Homers, Goossen-Brown Pitching Leads Dogs
Keon Barnum homered twice for the Chicago Dogs and Justin Goossen-Brown combined with five relief pitchers to blank the Milwaukee Milkmen, 6-0. Jordan Dean drove in three on a three run double in the top of the first-inning that proved to be all the support the Chicago staff needed. The victory kept Chicago 2.5 games behind St. Paul.
Metzger Walk-Off Double Propels RedHawks, 6-5
Brennan Metzger doubled home the winning run in the bottom of the ninth-inning to give the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks a 6-5 victory over the Gary Southshore RailCats. Fargo trailed 5-0 entering the bottom of the ninth, but an RBI double by Chris Jacobs, a three run homer by Carlos Garcia, and a solo homerun by Brian Olson tied the score. Yhoxian Medina followed with a base hit before Metzger won it with a walk-off double.
Chen Walk-Off Hit Gives AirHogs Victory, 6-5
Chen Jungpeng singled home the winning run in the bottom of the ninth-inning to give the Texas AirHogs a 6-5 victory over the Lincoln Saltdogs. A triple and two intentional walks loaded the bases. After Martire Garcia got a force out at the plate, Chen singled on a 3-1 pitch to drive home the winning run. Chen finished with two hits and three RBI.
American Association Notes
With their 12th straight win on Sunday, the Kansas City T-Bones are now tied for the longest winning streak in the American Association this season. With a victory over Sioux City on Monday, they will move past the Explorers for the longest win streak…The Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks have won seven straight games. The St. Paul Saints have won six straight…The Chicago Dogs Keon Barnum now has 29 homers, leading the American Association. With one more homerun he will tie C.J. Ziegler for the most homeruns in a single season in league history…The St. Paul Saints and Cleburne Railroaders set single season highs for hits on Sunday, with each team recording 21.
