American Association Daily Recap: August 28, 2019
In this edition of American Association Daily, Robert Pannier examines the highlights, transactions and news from the American Association for August 28, 2019. There were six games played on Wednesday, including the St. Paul Saints defeating the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks, and the Sioux City Explorers pulling into a first place tie in the South Division.

Baker Triple Drives Saints to Win, 4-3
The St. Paul Saints pulled to within one game of the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks in the North Division thanks to a three run triple by Chris Baker that helped the Saints to a 4-3 victory. Baker’s two out hit put the Saints on top, 4-2, and Chris Lee did the rest, allowing three runs in 7.1 innings pitched in his first start of the season. Tanner Kiest closed the contest out for his seventh save of the season.
Sasser Slam in First Propels Explorers to Victory, 9-1
The Sioux City Explorers scored six runs in the first inning, capped off by a grand slam by Adam Sasser, as they defeated the Sioux Falls Canaries, 9-1. Pete Tago allowed one run in six innings to earn the victory. Despite yielding the six runs in the first, Alex Boshers went the distance for Sioux Falls.
T-Bones Blast AirHogs, 16-1
Jonathan Perrin allowed one run in six innings, but it was the bats that did the damage as the Kansas City T-Bones battered the Texas AirHogs, 16-1. Daniel Nava drove in four and Stewart Ijames had five hits. Every player in the T-Bones lineup had at least one hit and one RBI.
Smith Walk-Off Homer Sends Saltdogs to Victory, 9-8
The Lincoln Saltdogs dealt a big blow to the Cleburne Railroaders hopes of winning the first division title in franchise history, when Curt Smith homered in the bottom of the 12th inning to give the Saltdogs a 9-8 victory. The homer was the fourth of the night for Lincoln as Martire Garcia earned the victory with a scoreless inning of relief.
Barnum, Roache Lead Dogs Over Milkmen, 10-3
Victor Roache and Keon Barnum each drove in three runs as the Chicago Dogs defeated the Milwaukee Milkmen, 10-3. Chicago scored three runs in the fifth and the ninth to seize control of the contest. Luke Westphal earned the victory, allowing three unearned runs in five innings.
Abercrombie Helps Goldeyes Edge RailCats, 3-2
Reggie Abercrombie blasted a three run homer in the bottom of the eighth inning, erasing a 2-0 deficit as the Winnipeg Goldeyes defeated the Gary Southshore RailCats, 3-2. Parker French allowed two runs in seven innings but took the no-decision. Cameron McVey closed out the ninth for his first save with Winnipeg. Justin Sinibaldi took the loss despite allowing just three unearned runs in 7.2 innings.
American Association Notes
Lincoln Saltdogs Manager Bobby Brown earned the 400th victory of his career on Wednesday…Winnipeg Goldeyes OF Reggie Abercrombie hit his 90th homer in a Goldeyes uniform on Wednesday. That ties the franchise mark set by Josh Mazzola.
